I am trying to buy a new PC...mainly for ripping/converting dvds/movies, downloads, large file managements (ignore my hdd size), medium-intensity gfx works. Here are my specs, final total =$594 (including tax/shipping): What do you guys think, is it worth its price value? (Please disregard I have vista too I just want to try it out if not i dont like i will uninstall and install xp pro)
Looks pretty good to me, I of course think macs are way better haha, but for what you need, it sounds like a fine compy.
With no speakers, and no modem, it looks like a basic computer. It comes with no anti-virus or security software, so be careful until you can install some of your own.
Removed all that my self, i hate preinstalled stuff, I will isntall my own obviously (And I have 5.1 speakers installed in my rooms so no worries). Why would I need a modem out of curioisty? It costs +$30 bones :X
You can get better speakers from the store for the price they charge. The preinstalled anti-virus / security software are all crap.
I can agree with that. As to the modem, I wasnt sure how you were connecting to the net. There are still ancient dial up accounts floating around.
So sounds like a good deal, should I make any other changes of any sort? I have a very nice sony DVD+-RW DL burner (extenal), dont feel like paying +$30 for a dell one. Also I have a SATA Seagate 279gb HDD (total alloacted spaec i have), can I plug it into my dell without any issues?
If you must open it up, I advise you to know what you are doing. As far as adding the hd, you should not have any problems. Just make sure you configure it right. Those ATA drives can be tricky.
Overall Dell prices are value for the money, you cant get much cheaper from others than from Dell, their competitiveness is that they are extremely lean and mean and have a fantastic logistic network
Looks pretty good for what you need. I heard dell has crappy motherboards though?? Nothing I ever took the time to confirm.
