Is this a decent idea for Links.com

    Hi everyone,

Would appreciate any feedback on this new concept that I am experimenting with on Links.com. Basically, I am using Wordpress as a polling site where visitors can vote on the best links within different categories. I just put the site up to see if the concept might fly before I put any more effort and investment into it. Any feedback on the concept would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Whoa, you own links.com? There are a wide range of things you can do with that site that would be wildly lucrative. I will try to wrap a few things up and shoot you a pm about it!!!

Sounds like a wonderful idea, however, I would just sell off the domain for $XXX,XXX!

You have an excellent domain but I think that your idea is approx the same as digg and other social bookmarking sites with vote up/down systems. So, you may or may not be successful in it!

You are describing a site that will have huge amounts of incoming and outgoing links. That basically equates to huge amounts of page rank. I would like to see one of my sites at the top if you do this.

My first question is, "what incentive would there be to interact with your site. Am I just voting or can I submit a link or leave my link in my vote"?

It reminds me of the site Page Rank 10 in one year where he sold pages for $10.00 each hoping to get pr10 but alas, now sits at pr3.

    Interesting return from http://www.dnscoop.com/

    Site Value Report
The estimated value of http://www.links.com is: $148,000,444

This value is calculated based on several factors shown above, including: Links, Traffic (Alexa), age of the domain, site category, domain keyword popularity, and overall occurrences of the domain name on the web.

I don't really want to sell the domain. I would prefer to try to develop traffic and earn revenue.

I tried the polling idea over the weekend. It fell flat, so I am back to the drawing board.

Thanks for the response. Appreciate it.

    Hi momi,

I agree with your analysis. It really is just a different spin on digg and other sites like it. As you suspected, the idea fell flat when I tried it out for a couple of days. So, I am going to try to come up with another idea. One person suggested an AllTop clone, but I think that this idea would also fall flat.

Appreciate the response, and give yourself a thumbs up for being right on the mark!

    Hi,

Thanks for the analysis. Yes, I would take a risk by putting so many links on the page, though they are hidden by virtue of the fact that they are in PollDaddy polls as opposed to being directory links.

The idea would be a cross between a directory and a voting/review site, but as I stated in my above responses, the idea fell flat so I am not going to continue with the experiment. I get enough traffic in a couple of days to know whether the idea had merit.

So, I am back to the drawing board. It is tough coming up with unique content or ideas, but I'll keep trying.

    Appreciate the response.
