Is there value for Directory submissions?

    Hey guys,

On last month, I had done about 200 directory submissions from a list which I have got via searching on Google. Unfortunately, Only about 30-40 submissions are approved so far, Most of them are DOFOLLOW too. But, still I don't see any increment in my SERP. I had put lots of time on this, but no results. That is a sad thing.

So, I just want to know, is there anyone using directory submissions? & Still these Directory submissions suck good SEO Juice? (However, now I am using some other ways like blog comments, article submissions, linkwheel and etc)

    Hi

Directory submissions do take time - Especially if your category is deep within the site

I use directory submissions to increase the link popularity of sites.

They help you get started with page rank but using directories alone will not get you above PR2 in my opinion

Don't forget - they are free links so you are relying on the directory owner validating the link manually - for free!!

You should look at article marketing also if you want quicker links - and social bookmarks - although a lot of the more popular ones are nofollow

    Hope that helps!!

Directory submission is useful thing and we can't ignore it. It will definitely increase your SERP but you have to wait for sometime.

Dont spam out directories too much... they really dont add hardly anything to your SERPs..

Its a bit 'circa 2001' to use directories for your main link building. Try and get guest posts on blogs etc or create some decent link bait / content for a better impact.

    Scott - I totally agree

I still use directories though as they can quickly get the popularity rating up

If they are categorised correctly and not too deep into the site - Directories can be very cost effective - especially for low competition phrases

You just have to wait, it is not a bad thing to submit to directories and I always use it.

I always had good experience doing dir submissions. As you know it takes time for search engines crawl all those sites, update their datacenters, synchronize them etc. I would say dont stop, keep working. Within 6 months you should start seeing good progress.

Dont use automated software to send your site to several directories in a day, focus on manual submissions to top directories. Such as Dmoz, yahoo, lii, jayde, etc...it takes time, but worth the effort.

    Hi,

Yes they are very useful but manually submission in directories is good. If you are using any tool for this You can be penalized. In manually submission definitely you can get good quality back links and traffic as well.

When it comes to search engine ranking, link building is only one sector.

Plus, directory sites have huge OBL and it may only give less value to your backlinks.

As for ranking, you might be targeting certain set of keywords to rank well and this will only help if your backlink from directories have anchored keywords.

Maybe, you can try other link building methods like:
    - social bookmarking
    - article directories
    - blog reviews
    - forum posts
    - blog commenting
    - etc

Always try to monitor the quality of your backlinks.

If the page have more than 100 outbound links, then it is most probably considered as spam backlink.

Try to find pages with low outbound links and get a backlink from there.

I sometimes do outsourcing for my new sites and I buy 2000 submissions and more than 70% are approved and it makes some link juice and visitors as well. But no increasing for PR but good thing for link diversity and it is good in eyes of Google bot.

Directory Submission is really a useful tool for Internet marketing and provide good value to website but if its done by really good and professional hands. Their are number of directories which have been spammed by various search engines; if some one is not capable to identify them than this submission may harm your website. Be careful!

I have an automated directory on one of my sites with over 1000 link exchanges. I reject about 70% of the submission since they are not related. If you run a home repair site, don't submit your Indian Real Estate links there. Crap unrelated links isn't something I don't want in my directory.

I do agree that there automated spammers that don't look at the content and just submit in the 1000s.
