Is there such thing as h2 spamming?

    Hi i am wondering on my website i have a lot of information condensed together in each article i am thinking of adding instead of just underlined subheadings using h2 tags and h3 tags for subheadings.
    If i were to do this continously throughout my website would this be considering spamming of headline tags or is there anything else i should watch out for?

    This is to basically increase my keyword density

    Will.

    Don't worry about your html tags, just be concerned about your keyword density.

    Its not spamming. You could use h1 for heading, h2 for subheading and h3 for sub-subheading.

    How long are your articles? (I have a feeling this is going to stray far from SEO and into copywriting...)

    My articles are about 400 words in length, how would it be copywriting?

    Because you're writing copy (hence "copy" "writing" or "copywriting") for people to read (and use).

    Do you think you could provide me with a representative example of what your typical article looks like? With each article being unique, the structure will tend to dictate whether lower level headings (H2-H6) will be used, if they're even necessary.

    Eghads, that page (the one you PM'd me) is horrible (from a markup perspective).

    Take the headings out of your menu (they belong in the page content). You also shouldn't repeat your menu (one menu - that's it). And please, increase the text size. Your HTML should look like this (I'll be using placeholder lorem ipsum content).

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

    	<meta http-equiv="imagetoolbar" content="no" />
    	<meta name="description" content="A brief description of the current page goes here." />
    	<meta name="keywords" content="keywords, go, here, only, once, page, content, has, been, finished" />

    Notice how this version (which uses placeholder content, mind you) has the headings (including H2s) in the CONTENT, not the menu (where you had yours). Yes, I did add a menu to the footer, but that was done to show you what markup you should use if you were to add a "list of links" to the footer anyway. If you don't want/need it, you can remove it. You also shouldn't repeat your menu (you had the menu on the top and left sides) - people can and likely will be confused. One site, one menu (most of the time - and your site doesn't qualify for an exception).

    It does not matter. Tags aren't spamming. Keywords can be considered spamming or stuffing when it is done excessively. Beware

    Tell that to a person using the Web site. You didn't see the page he sent me, so I doubt you have any idea as to what was on it and/or where in the first place.
