Is there such a thing as too much weight?

This is just a question - I was wondering, does anyone think that throwing too big a weight behind an ad could be a problem?

And if yes, when/why do you think that might be?

Well... CNN is still #1 for news.

They have millions of widespread links with 'news' as the anchor text. Why wouldn't it work for your site with a tool like the Coop?

I've heard great things about Coop so far.

I just thought that having to big a weight towards a site might be a problem because of the massive and sudden increase in backlinks. Do you think that might trigger problems/filters with google?

Personally, I would vary the anchor text a little but I don't see any harm really.

If some site has breaking news and a million sites link to it; they don't get hit by filters or penalites. Worse thing that can happen is a delay in getting what each link is worth entirely.

But yuo shouldn't 'put all your eggs in one basket' anyway. You shouldn't optimize for just one page and one keyphrase. Spreading (risk) is a good thing.

I know, I am not sure yet what is the best way to distribute weight between ads (1-5)

I'm not sure exactly how weight relates to the backlinks you get.

Yahoo happens to report them pretty quickly. Perhaps you could add weight in steps of 5K. Weight two days, check Y and decide on the next step.

In the meanwhile, you may point the spare weight at the links in my sig :)

Ok, I'll test it for a while. And if it gets out of hand I'll think about the sig thing :) . Unfortunately I have quite a few other sites that could use some links as well.
