It doesn't matter what you think, it doesn't matter what someone tells you. The reality is if you do not pay your taxes you risk going to jail. This is a very real consequence of not paying your taxes, regardless of whether or not you think you are required to pay them.

Frankly, if you want to think you don't have to pay your taxes, think that. If you don't actually pay your taxes you are an idiot.

Anyone who tells you they have gotten away with not paying their taxes simply has not been caught yet.

It may seem self-explainatory to a layperson, but this is legalese rather than English. It's been decided in court that 16th amendment doesn't give government the right to collect any new taxes that it already didn't have. The important thing here is that the word 'source' is defined as a government source, so it's any and all income from doing business with government. In other words, you have to pay income tax if you are a government employee, or shareholder of a government corporation (like Amtrak). There is a really helpful book called 'Cracking the Code' by Hendrickson - he got back his taxes paid to IRS for previous years using this argument, as did many of his readers. The website is losthorizons.com . No need to mention that IRS hates it, after returning his money they tried to sue him, but Dept Of Justice dropped their support of this case.
Also, if you don't have SSN, you don't have to pay income tax, won't hear from IRS, and if you do file your taxes IRS will not accept your check. (But before you run cancel your SSN think how you're going to open bank accounts or get driver licenses without one)
I enjoyed the movie, although for me it didn't provide any information I didn't already know, and I don't know why the fat bastard didn't put on something nice when doing interviews

Great post and oh so true. In Canada about .22 cents of every tax dollar collected goes straight to interest on the national debt. Our debt is only about 500 billion dollars give or take a billion. The vast majority of the debt is not from government spending as some would have you believe - it's the compound interest - for Canada anyways.

Many who responded on this thread I think didn't watch the flick - people are in fact winning their court cases. It all depends on the judge and jury. Simply stick to your guns and demand that they show you the law. They can't, because no such law exists. They have people so scared that they comply with something that they don't have to comply with, and if that's not enough the IRS/government enforce laws that don't exist.

Canada is different - our politicians were smart enough to write it down.

The argument is only about income tax, not about taxes in general. Schools, roads, traffic lights, and probably the rest of expenses you mentioned are not covered by income tax - government has plenty of other sources of income

States and cities have a right to tax, because, well, they can basically do whatever they want that isn't specifically denied to them in the constitution. People may claim they don't have to pay federal income tax, and maybe they're even winning cases, I don't know, but when it comes to state and local taxes, you have no choice.

A bigger issue to the freedom of our country (not just our personal bottomlines), is how the government uses Federal income tax disbursements to extort States into granting the Federal government rights that are not afforded to it in the Constitution...

For example... The Federal government has no legal right to require a drinking age of 21 nationwide, that right is left to each individual state to determine. But what the Federal government does have is complete control over how much money they disburse to each state for things like road repairs... So the Federal government basically says, "you will increase your drinking age to 21 or we won't give you any money for road repairs." This is why Lousiana used to have the worst roads in the country and was the last state to raise their drinking age...

Maybe something like the legal drinking age doesn't really seem all that bad, I'm sure most people agree that it's a good thing, but they could basically use the same practices to achieve anything they want that they don't have a legal right to do.

So, in the end, the federal income tax has literally corrupted our Federal government in ways that the Constitution never dreamt of and they have completely bypassed the checks and balances of the system to achieve illgotten rights.

So true...the South losing the Civil War over state's rights has sent us down a long, slippery slope that we'll likely never recover from now.
