Just curious! Is the social networking market still available or has it become consumed by big boys like myspace etc...

Definitely. If you play your cards right and market your site to an untouch market, you can be successful. I don't think there is a limit to the number of social networking sites a person would join. People would tend to cast their net as wide as possible so the more the merrier.

    WHat legal issues ?

Anyway, if you are just looking to buy a license of phpfox for $300 and than think you can make a socail site with that, don't bother to waste your money. There just too many similar sites in the market. If u have something better and custome to offer, only than jump.

Here is one that is beter than myspace. The layouts are easy to change and customize, the blogs are easy, and the best thing is that people will RUN TO YOU to be your friend! It's not like the other networks where people won't add you unless they know you (Or unless they are a freak) because people are expecting to help each other make money.

Here is a link to my profile:copy and paste: profile.yuwie.com/drescher

And here is a link to the marketing video:copy and paste: r.yuwie.com/drescher

See you there! I will be your first friend.

I think the next wave is for localized social networking...like in your hometown or general area. Eventually, people will be more sick and tired of myspace's spam and horrible site load time.

What if they were very specific to an area - sport, career or other need for people to connect?

Isn't it ironic that the same problems in social network type sites are showing their ugly heads here as well - look above ^^^ THE SPAM LoL.

Sure there's always room if you have something unique and busy, if you can create a crowd then more will follow.

And the spanker above LoL - yuwie ? haha why don't youwie go spam that shit some where else IDIOT ....

I think going vertical would be better that might have lesser competition.
