I have a product that I manufacture and sell online. There are 4 different models. I just set up our first affiliate program for these products. Each model has it's own separate page and our affiliates can link only to those pages. Elsewhere on our site, we have (related but not the same at all) products that we advertise as part of an affiliate program we belong to through Commission Junction. We've had a recent affiliate sign up for our program and then later write back that he wanted out because we ourselves belonged to an affiliate program. I must be missing something because I don't see where the problem is. If he has a great opportunity to make some money (which he does) by advertising our product, why would he care if we are advertising other different products somewhere else on our site? The way I see it, he's just blowing an opportunity to make some money. Am I missing something? Thanks
This shouldn't be that surprising if you try look at this from the angle of an affiliate. Imagine: If you are directing your website traffics to the merchant you're affiliated to, what do you expect from the merchant? Do you expect the merchant to focus 100% promote the product you're affiliated to (so that you gain max from sales commission); or you expect your merchant take advantage on the free traffics and sell some other products that doesn't credit you with any money return? As a merchant, did you notice that you're taking advantage of your affiliate when you're selling some other thing that do not pay your affiliate? Those are your affiliate's traffics that you're taking, for free! Yes, of course you can say that the affiliates are making some money but he or she should be making more! Frankly, I'll do the same (signing out on your aff program) if my merchants are like you.
