Is There Something Wrong With .biz?

I've been domaining lately and it seems with many of the domains I've looked up, all major extensions, including .info, .org, .net, .com, and .us are all taken except for .biz!

Why would someone not want to register a .biz but register a .us and .info? Is there something about .biz that lessens its value compared to .us and .info?

If I find a domain with all major extensions but the .biz taken, should I grab it?

The restrictions of a dot biz is that it must be used by a business site. That might be viewed as a draw back. I think you can come up with some catchy sounding dot biz names personally. Too bad monkey.biz is taken I believe.

If I register a .biz and don't have a business, what can happen?

I don't know if you hold it. If you use it on a non-business site I do not think you are supposed to be able to reregister. I would look into the restrictions before I purchased.

I did not realize when I bought the one I own that there was a restriction. Friend pointed it out to me.

Here is some info http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/biz/registry-agmt-appl-18apr01.htm .

I had bought hundreds of domains since 1995 but not .biz because the impression is that it is for business. It would be weird to have something like yoga.biz if I'm not in the business of selling Yoga related products, classes, etc.

To get a .biz, it must be used only for profit site.
And by profit site, it must be a business.

I looked at it, and was talked out of it by many more savvy marketers than I will ever be.
Simply because the .biz is a big tip off it is a site that wants to sell you something, right off the bat.

Just like .ws is getting a bad rep as the place for scam and spam sites.

I thought .com was initially developed mainly for commerce sites so why would .biz be shunned if businesses use .com ? Then wouldnt it make sense that .biz would be just as good as a .com now since they are both used for commerce???

    Hey all, new member here.

I was thinking about the .org domain the other day, and peoples thoughts on that one? Is it considered one of the better ones to hold? It doesn't spring to my mind personally, a bit like .biz which is why i have replied here.

I have the opportunity of getting a .org domain though where all the others are taken for my certain keyword. I guess that for getting visitors you are less likely to get people just typing the address in than .com for example? Otherwise I imagine visitor stats will just be down to the amount of effort put into getting the site known?

I like the biz extension. I have quite a few that are not used for business at the moment and have had no problems. Who is going to surf through all of the .biz domains and check to see if they are a business or not? Org was supposed to be for non-profit but that is not the case now. There are plenty of commercial org's.

I like .biz extension, and personally, I own some 3 letter .biz domains, ppl will realize the potential of such domains really soon since most of premium TLD have been taken. Theres nothing wrong to own a .biz domain, they don't valued as many as .com only b/c it is a new extension and ppl will need time to recognize it.

.biz is not attractive mainly because it is to be used only for Business related sites, and also because the word Z is not in the word "Business" anywhere

The second reason is the BIGGEST reason .biz is not attractive.

.com is more preferred, though if there is no other choice and other domains are taken , .biz can be preferred.

I get the impression that .biz sites are generally pretty seedy. Most people will not visit a .biz site unless it's got an interesting URL hack.

I think .biz is an awful extension, unless it's really appropriate for the extension, such as something like manufacturer.biz or similar.
