    Hey guys, i see a lot of new facebook applications being made and sent to me on my facebook account and i was wondering can you monetize a facebook application?

    What can you do with one, as the creator of an application could you sell products or anything?

    Will.

    Yes, you can monetize an application : with banners, CPC ads ,...
    But it will only profitable if your application become "viral" and you reach a very large audience.

    The problem is to find a very good idea so millions of users will use your app.

    Currently more than 20 000 applications were created and less than 100 are really sucessful.

    I think "Superwall" from Rock You is making something like 1.5 millions $/month in revenues.

    The Scrabulous guys are making $25,000 a month from advertising. If you make a really popular app it can make you rich.

    Facebook groups make money also. Websites pay group owners to have the homepage link go to their site or add links elsewhere.

    Money can be made form almost everything on the web but a Facebook application is not one of the easy ways :) Not that it is impossible but it takes a lot of work

    It seems to be facebooks own language for writing their applications.

    It seems hard to me,

    You can make tons of money on Facebook with apps very easily! There is so much Daily traffic on FB it's ridiculous.. Plus, well designed apps have built in features like "mini-feed notifications" built in... what these do is everytime a user uses your app, it sends out a "notification" on all of their friends mini-feeds! This is the first page their friends see upon logging into FB and the "notification" is also a link to your app! Where else can you find a site to own that will create it's own backlinks? And at an increasing rate too, as more users join, more notifications will be sent out!

    So no, you don't need to really have a creative idea to make good money on FB... I know of many situations where several applications exist based on the same code but with minor theme variations, that are making well over $5k per month each :)

    As long as your app adds some value to users lives and isn't totally pointless, all it takes to make it successful is some initial promotion, to get it to the point where it is earning enough that you are satisfied, and then you let the viral features take over and it grows and you earn even more per month :)

    I have seen some pretty good FB app scripts for sale at http://www.Apps-R-Us.com, maybe check there.

    yes there is money to be made...... in more ways than one

    some of the best (little known) features of facebook

    * one click app instalation
    ...... you can use it as an alternative to registeration on your website
    forget open-id, using facebook apps,
    your users will never have to register ever again
    (offering auto registeration, and auto login, via facebook)

    * email all users
    ...... facebook lets you email your application users
    imagine.... aweber....
    so just with 1000 users...
    what you have is an opt in list,
    with potential of 1000$ a month......

    Thats my idea for the summer, to learn how to make a facebook application. Even if i decide not to make my own, i believe there is a lot of demand for facebook app writers currently.

    I personally don't pay attention to any Facebook applications. i=I find most of them stupid and annyoing. There's just so many of them and they're all about some stupid crap. I don't know how much other people use Facebook applications though.
