    A few days later..

So Watson, have you learnt to trust in Google?

Watson: Of course! If they say they look at results but don't manipulate their ranking using the results, I believe them.

What would you say to those who say: "That's stupid! Why would they just "look" at the results. It's like saying I'll look at your diary, but I won't remember anything!"

Watson: I'll say: "Your stupid! Google is a good company and I trust them more than I trust my mother!"

Good Watson! You have learned well.

    @inev,
If you're going to mimick my humor, don't base it on non-facts, lies and rumors you read on DP. It'll be funnier. It's especially bad when you show you don't understand what I posted.

Care to elaborate on the "non-facts,lies and rumors"? I don't think I even posted anything remotely related to facts and rumors. I just pointed out the absurdity of your argument.

You know what I think the issue is? When I used your humor against you, it stung.

You're right. I mis-read what you said. Google obviously looks at the results of web sites and pages on the internet and determines rankings based on that. Bing, otoh, in part, bases their rankings on what it finds on Google. Quite different. Google does their own work.
Doesn't sting me at all. Why would it? If anything, you show you don't understand the issue. Most DP people have trouble understanding things.

The issue is they say they do their own work. Who knows how they use the data they "look" at?

Can you please explain this issue you speak of that us DP commoners have so much trouble understanding?

You're asking two questions. If Google isn't doing its own work, who's work do you think they are using? Your second questions isn't related to anything I'm talking about. How do you know how Bing is using the data they "look" at? How do you know Microsoft isn't spying on every keypress on your computer?
You just explained it for me.

hmm...this is getting tiring. You keep putting words in my mouth or twisting my question. I never said Google isn't doing their own work. I'm saying that they do their own work, but they could also be looking at Bings results and modifying their algorithm if they consistently see Bing returning better results for a particular word. Why else would they "look"?

Bing got caught doing it, Google didn't. That's the only difference. You seem to have it in for Bing.

By that question, you are declaring that you think they do look. Since Bing is an inferior search engine, that would be a stupid thing to do. After all, if Bing was better, Bing wouldn't copy Google.
Like Internet Explorer, Microsoft likes to tell people Bing is many things it is not. Microsoft is a criminal corporation convicted on two continents and fined over $2billion, including continued US Federal oversight for their crimes. I do not believe in promoting activities of criminals.

That explains a lot. You should have disclosed your incredibly biased view in the beginning. It's no point arguing with a devout catholic about evolution.

Btw, you make it sound like they continually rape and torture people lol. All their "crimes" were abuse of their dominant position, which is wrong, but not such a large crime that I would hate them forever. I personally dislike some of Microsoft's practices, but I am grateful to them for what they did to the personal computing field.

On a side note, I'm glad we didn't resort to flaming each other, which seems very common on forums. Good day to you, sir. :)

Is anything I said not true? Treating a criminal for what they are is not bias.
Last year, the US Justice Department extended their federal oversight because Microsoft continued their "bad practices" for another 2 years.

Besides that, I originally got into the web business using Microsoft software. I spent a year wasting my time and money trying to get a system up and running. Make a long story short, Microsoft changed things on us causing to pitch half our work. We switched to Unix systems and have not touched any Microsoft product since. We are very successful.

It is strong bias if you judge criminals by their past history. It's like saying if you robbed a store once, and a few years down the road there was another store robbery in you area, the police look at you as though you were definitely involved. An unbiased person would suspect everyone equally.

That's not MS's fault. That's your lack of foresight. Before you began you should have to researched on which technology is best for you. Many sites use ASP very successfully, but most tend to work with other technologies because they like it better.

It was not. This was back in the .NET 1.0 days and it's well known how Microsoft would change documentation and the framework without advanced notice. It wasn't just me it happened to.
I worked closely with my brother-in-law who works in a huge Microsoft house in Houston. It was he who first recommended to me that I switch to Unix based on what happened.

I'm no amateur when it comes to these things. I've developed hardware, then software, for decades and know how to do this. (As an aside, if you ever had eye surgery at one time, chances are one of the products I developed was used.)

I think that Bing does has penalties like Google has, but they are not so serious, because Bing wants to be the winner in this competition. So the tactics of Bing is rather obvious, but will see the results of this.
