Is there anyway to track down a domain names previous contact info?

    Hi All,
I have an interesting situation on my hands. We purchased a domain name last year off of ebay. I was contacted the other day (through our web site submit form) by someone who says that her web page has disappeared and she wants it back up. Apparently the former company was a web design company, and hosted her site on the domain (why she is just discovering this now, I will never know) I purchased.

Is there anyway to get the previous contact information on this domain? I have no idea who the Ebay seller was, and it has been so long that ebay has cleared the transaction, so there isn't anyway to look it up. We don't have any detail record of the transaction, other than how much was paid, etc.

I saw that domaintools.com offers a service to look up the IP history, but that costs money, and I am not sure that will provide me with the info. Is there any free way to do it?

I would like to help this lady if I could, as she seems quite desperate, and I feel bad for her.

    Morty

You could try running the domain name through http://news.netcraft.com/ . If Netcraft indexed it, you might be able to find the necessary details.

Top left box labelled 'What's that site running?... ' just enter the domain name in there and if there is a history, it will show you.

No guarantees that you will find your details in there.

    Hi eddy,
Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't provide any info.

I appreciate the thought though, I was hoping it would be as simple as that.

If you're up to it, PM me the domain name and I'll see what I can find.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
So far nothing has panned out. I havent tried whois.sc as it is the same as domaintools and I don't want to pay for the info (it doesn't really affect me).

Tobycoke, thanks for the offer. I appreciate it, but I don't think it is necessary. I was just wondering if there was a quick and easy way to help her out.

    Thanks again!
