Is there anything even close to eDirectory

    Hey,

I'm looking for a robust directory script.

Something similar to eDirectory but without the hefty pricetag.

The price isn't as much the issue is as the fact that the coding is so bad for such a high price.

Any suggestions? (and please don't recommend phpld, phpmd or esyndic)

    Thanks,
    JB

    Hi
Just curious, why can't you use scripts you mentioned? Is that a lack of features, personal antipathy or you just want to give a try to new scripts? Or is that the low price that makes you feel a good software can not be sold so cheap? :)

    @ Hi Simon.

Based on my past experience with programmers and scripts, I just want to double check before choosing the final one.
I wish to avoid fuss in future phases.
The price is no matter And for sure you guys have a lot of addons.

Just if you can help on a thread I started :)

forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1735718 Online web directory Scripts Comparison chart !

    Cheers.

Well, I checked that thread :) Not sure if I can help.. It's quite difficult for me to be objective - the same for other directory scripts owners. Not sure if that's the correct way :) There are tons of factors besides a number of features like code style, template system, usability, reliability, and so on and so forth that make you decide whether to use the software. So a number of features/plugins should not be the only reason to choose/avoid a certain software.

So I think it's you and only you decide what software to choose and use :)

From my view, edirectory is so different with a other directory script.
Every script has its own strength and weakness. If you need all the features better to buy the script, even it cost you $1499. Believe me it would be more expensive if you try to buy other script and customize like what edirectory has. Not to mention the time you need to develop and bugs.

I agree, eDirectory blows all of the $100 scripts out of the water and it looks very pretty on the outside, but according
to people that I know that have eDirectory, they say that its riddled with bugs and coded very poorly, so customizing it is a pain.

Now if you have 5K - 10K to customize it you're fine, but at that point I think would be better to just get your own custom
script created IMHO. Then you can use it on as many sites as you want and even sell copies to recoup your investment.

That's why they charge an arm and a leg for even the simplist customizations if you hire them to do it.

PHP is supposed to be the most scalable language, but it needs to be done right.

Would anyone who actually owns the script care to chime in?
