If it's truly smartpricing, it will go back to decent earnings per click on it's own. If it's not, and it probably ISN'T, you've probably got an infestation of MFAA ads on your site which need to be filtered.

I'd start looking at the type of ads you're getting, check a few of them out (copy/paste the urls) and see if they are MFAA.

Your ads aren't converting into sales of any sort. You'll never get out of smartpricing till the quality of your clicks improves. You are sending useless traffic to your advertisers which means smart pricing.

    1) filter mfas
    2) turn off site-targeted cpm ads
    3) remove image ads from all ad blocks
    3) don't swamp your pages with ad blocks, and don't pull scammer tricks like putting up pages with no navigational links except for the ads.

some things like forum pages, myspace resource sites, etc., usually don't have decent epc, and some niches simply do not have enough relevant advertisers.

    nice.. really nice... niche?

regarding original question.. 4.4 per click is average in some niche such as entertainment... i make about 5 - 6 cents per click on my joke site..
