You can use plugin to see your traffic inside your website, if you are using wordpress.

We are using awstats and google analytics however both show different statistics. Not sure which is most trustworthy but our stats don't match in both the options.

I'm confused, how come you can't just use google analytics? Anyway, sitecounter is one method of doing so and I believe wordpress itself monitors traffic (maybe it is a plugin though?)

Any other (decent) tracking or analytics program should allow you to do this

Most site hosting providers also track your traffic and other stats. I know yahoo, godaddy, hostgator, 1&1 do. If your hosting provider doesn't do that, maybe you should try a different one.
