I've had adsense up and running for a good 2 months yet mostly i get ads my users probably wouldn't be interested in - mostly realtors and work-at-home schemes.

is there any way to make my adsense ads more interesting??

I write mostly about food (cupcakes, lebanese food), the Portland Tram, restaurants, just a weird variety of portland stuff

    pdx,

Use section targeting. That should help out a bunch. Here's the explaination:

Oh i get it - i've been using section targeting for ALL content - duh - I should be making 'sections' instead.

Thanks for making me re-read that!

Section targeting can get some great results to help push the type of ads in the right direction.

Keep in mind though that it can take a week or two sometimes for the more accurate targeting to start showing up, or at least it has done for me in the past.

    Hi:

I suggest you take a look at your keyword density.Google will serve you ads based on advertiser availability for the keyword you are targeting. If you are being served with inappropriate ads,one cause would be poorly-written content.

Another cause could be geotargeting preferences of the advertiser. If advertisers have not chosen your geographical domain for their ads to be shown, you may not have target ads as you wish.

I agree with the other forum mates that you consider section targeting as SE robots may read your side bar content (if you are blogging) and supply ads accordingly.

Actually thats a really good point. I've often used the Adsense targeting (or more importantly, MIStargeting) as an obvious indicator for how my content is being perceived by Google. Its not always going to be a sure sign, but its an excellent tool in figuring out if you're doing something wrong with your content creation, or layout. Sometimes just changing a couple of things about the pages structure might even help correct the targeting, and you may also get an increase in accurately targeted search traffic as a bonus.
