I've spent the last year concentrating my efforts and SEO on Google. Lately, I've started to optimise for Yahoo and No.1 keyword in Yahoo brings in less traffic than a No.3 in Google. Comparison on keyword: Google - 1,800 uniques pwk Yahoo - 145 uniques pwk. Whats the point spending my time with Yahoo - it's not like I've not got anything to do, I'm sure my energies could be spent better elsewhere. Does any disagree with me OR are you thinking the same thing? Darren
'Past results are not a guarantee for the future'! And it is good to not have all your eggs in one basket. One day yuo might get kicked out of the G index because of a stupid mistake and there you go.. 95% traffic gone... MSN search will be big on day too. I can only hope traffic will be 30% - 30% - 30% from the big three. Do not rely on Google. If you do then G down equals yu down. It is all about what each visitor is worth, not from where they are coming. Convert with good products and or services from a professional website and those few Y visitors might turn out to be great leads. Just my experience/forecast/opinion.
I've always found that by optimizing for Google, I'm optimizing for the other SE's as well. When I start woirking on a term I always ranks first, and better, in Yahoo than I do Google. By the time I'm first page in Google, I've usually already been in the top 3 in Yahoo for a month or two.
IMO they use a lot of the same criteria as google. Links, title, on page content, etc. Like I said, if you rank well in Google for a term odds are you rank equally as well in Yahoo....that's almost always been the case for me.
Sorry I disagree. I've terms in Google which rank in top 5 in Yahoo there no where to be seen. Yahoo pays more attention to your title and description tags, if your description tags don't have the keywords you are optimising for you can forget ranking high on Yahoo. IMO Tops is right about having all of your eggs in one basket though. Just seems that Google has many more eggs than Yahoo or MSN put together at the moment. Darren At the moment Yahoo and MSN is poor in that neither of these SE's bring me many referrals.
Sign up for Overture and you will be on top of those Y & M SERPs. We normally get around 10% CTR on those ads so is a viable option if you are desperate and if the potential of conversion is there.
I've in line with wwhhomes I've got dozens of terms ranking on the first page of Yahoo and MSN - they asend me some 200+ uniques a day, almost evenly split. I get about 15-20 a day from google, and most of those are from Froogle. On one key phrase, I've got 4 out of the top ten on both MSN and Yahoo - same key phrase is nowhere to be found in Google. I've been trying for months to increase Google traffic without any success. All my sites together pull in over 500 uniques a day, and less than 8% are from G.
My site is ranked 1st or 2nd on Yahoo for most keywords that I am targetting, whereas on Google, I rank anything from #3 to #70!! Despite this, I still get three times the amount of traffic from Google than I do from Yahoo. But, at least I know that at some stage if the "Google bubble" bursts, I would rank well with the other big Search engines!
Since 2 of my keywords have been listed in the top 10 on Yahoo, I have gotten a small increase in traffic, but less than I expected.
More than likely that if you optimize for Google, you will be optimized for Yahoo as well. I have some sites where 80% of my traffic comes from Google and only 20% from Yahoo and then on another sites it's the exact opposite. Yahoo loves content (even more than Google?) and hates duplicate content with a passion. AJ
