Hi I have been using google since last9 years now and my primary source of traffic on my website is google. But the question is till what time i can be dependent on one source of traffice or search engine. The rules of business suggests that we should have multiple ways of earning money and similarly I should have multiple sources of traffic on my website. Please suggest.
I'd say besides marketing the big three (Google, MSN, Yahoo) ... try gaming some of the newer, up and coming search engines, like SearchMe or CUIL.
Yes you are absolutely right one should not put all eggs in basket and rather diversify. One should not depend solely on the Google, if Google for some unknown reason de-index the site one should loose all the traffic ( as Google is becooming strict day by day). We should also use yahoo and MSN, Alexa and many new search engines which are small as compared the Giant Google but are fexible and not as strict as Google. Tehmina
start adwords, purchase traffic with some of such advertising networks. but if you continue to do good work, google will continue to put good eggs on your basket. It is not easy or possible to replace traffic from google. It is simply way ahead of traffic from any other means or source.
I find other websites that fit with mine and try to get them to talk about my site...and give a link back. Those links provide some traffic, but not nearly as much as Google. Bottom line, it a marketing job and unfortunately Google holds most of the eyes so they are the best place to market.
Source of traffic depends on the type of site too. For example, forums get lot of direct traffic. Anyway, you can also get traffic from Yahoo and MSN. That traffic is less compared to google but it is still good traffic.
Keep optimizing for Google and you should eventually get traffic from Yahoo and/or MSN. Of course they would give you much less traffic. You are definitely right to think about the need to diversify. Relying on any one source of traffic is quite risky. One day they can change their ranking algorithm and you could lose your major source for new customers. Keep learning about seo and try some of the techniques that other people talk about. Some of the techniques like directory submission and article syndication can also get you a small amount of direct traffic. Plus they would help your rankings on all search engines. If you need ideas, just check what your competition is doing.
Well I don't see there's a problem relying on google for the next few years as long as the search engine is being use by everybody unless this trend changes.
If your website is optimized to rank higher and get organic traffic from google, it is natural that the website is already optimized for other search engines too.... Unfortunately, majority of searches are made in google, so if your site is deindexed in google you have very little choice. Only if google closes down (i don't see it happening though), then only your traffic source changes to either yahoo or Live....
Go an promote your article or offer in top social bookmarking sites . This will help you in fast indexing and may be if someone like your content than you can get some good back links also .
Build a good network of sites. You can also develop a software or tool that internet user will use regularly for most of the time.
