is there any limit for meta description shall i add 500 char in my site ? thanks

I have come across many websites keeping description more than 160 chars and tested this personally by using 300-500 characters in my description. My observation was google picks up only till 160 characters rest it will just ignore from its indexing. Didn't really experiment with Yahoo and Bing.
