I believe from a link building standpoint there are some benefits from nofollow links, however, from a purely pagerank standpoint there are no benefits to a nofollow link

Nofollow links doesn't pass link juice, link weight and/or link authority although it might have some benefits when you're doing a bit of PageRank sculpting on your website. By applying nofollow links on certain links that you don't really want any link juice passed on, you can focusing the rest of the link juice to the more important pages in your website.

not anymore what? It is a regular link and it can be crawled by bots however there are certain factors such as link juice, link weight, etc.. That aren't passed on through nofollow links. Why do you think it is still called 'nofollow' then?

google can crawl nofollow links but it does not pass link juice to your website. There is some pagerank sculpting and it can be useful to create backlinks

As said before nofollow doesn't pass any link juice. But it could be helpful to increase you site index rate.
I have noticed many times that googlebot index site more quickly if having even nofollow links.

If you are actively pursuing no-follow links, it's a waste of time though. But if you're getting them without much effort, a link's a link.

Many peoples do think that nofollow link is no benefits at all. However, I think there is some benefits you might not think about it.

    1. Googlebots do still follow that nofollow link to see and analyze the linking pattern. Only no positive link score being given.
    2. It could help your link profile balanced. Is it possible for having 100% dofollow links? Many forums do auto nofollow attached with any links posted in threads and if your website being referred then it would get nofollow link. The 100% dofollow links for a long period of time does not seems legit to me personally.

I have built new sites with only nofollow links pointing to them, and they seem to rank good.
So I'm certain that there is some value in nofollow links.

Nofollow backlinks are still useful for ranking higher on search engines but they can not increase the pagerank of your website and dofllow backlinks can do the both for you. So when you hear and read in different websites that they insist on getting backlink from dofollow pages, is this. Its clear that every backlinks can help the ranking is you got it from a quality website. But dofollow ones are better and it doesn't mean nofollow backlinks are bad. No. Both of them are good and dofollow ones are better.

Yes, I agree. They generate good traffic, if the site (where making comment) PR is high.

Nofollow may not be counted towards pagerank, but it is good for serps. Nofollow being useless is a big fat MYTH... The majority of the websites are nofollow, and if Nofollow links weren't counted, we would have a billion plus webpages lining up to spam the few dofollow sites there are... The only people that do know what dofollow is, are the only ones to turn it on, even WP blogs are set to nofollow by default...

You are 100% correct. No follow does have value and should not be ignored. They do not pass pr.Put yourselves in Googles shoes for a minute if a person such as Matt Cutts says " no follow links do not pass page rank or link juice" then what does it do. It gives Google an avenue to track who is trying to fool the results? Google can easily see a site that has a backlink profile that is 99% do follow links and it can and will throw a red flag because it is obvious it is not natural. No follow links may not pass link juice but they do provide value to your site by giving your site a natural looking backlink pattern whihc gives you a higher grade so to speak.
