Is there an "out of the box" program that will enable me to create a file on a USB stick. Once the USB stick is inserted into a PC, it auto opens the file, allows someone to edit or add information to that file and then lets the user lock the file using a password? I know that there is open source encryption software for USB's, but I was wondering if it could be done within once file? Open - Edit - Lock? < Without having to exit the current file, and having to use another on the fly program to lock the USB. I hope I haven't made it sound too complicated. Any help or tips is appreciated.
I'm not sure if there is an 'out of the box' solution. You could try numerous programs together, such as TrueCrypt + a Microsoft Access Form. For a custom programming job I would recommend Adobe Air.
Not sure what kind of editor you need, but I came across this kind of obscure program. It uses the same base editor program as Notepad++, and encrypts files directly from inside the program. You can create container files to hold multiple files so you aren't having to encrypt/decrypt files individually unless so desired. It is an old program, but looks to be close to what you are looking for. It only encrypts files or containers, not the USB drive itself. That's the only point that may be a deal breaker for you. Hope this helps!
*facepalm* I see that my post is lacking something.... hmmmmm. Ummmm.... oh yeah, THE LINK!!! Here it is, and sorry for the brain spasm!!! http://panthema.net/2009/cryptote/
