I would just like to use up the $40 or so in my YSM account but it charges every time it gets near $30. There must be a way to switch from automatic charges to pre-paid...can someone please help me out?

Yahoo doesn't offer prepaid. The only option I have found is to wait until your credit card on file expires.

Do not let your account 's balance lower than the point that they charge.
Setting minimum values and beware do not below than this.:D

    1) Keep closer track of what you're spending. If you run up the charges, they have every right to take payment (and they will).

    2) Switch your payment method to a Visa/MasterCard gift card. You can get them with $10 - $25 loaded. Once gone, they won't be able to take additional payment, but they will also disable your ads once your account hits a zero balance. Actually, they will start to send you notices of your ads being inactive once your account balance falls under the minimum, but the ads will continue to show despite these notices until it has hit zero.

The quickest solution would be to call customer service directly and ask them to take you off of automatic charges. Don't wait for an email reply.
Do expect them to say something along the lines of, "we will switch you to prepaid for this single account, but any future Yahoo SM accounts will be relegated to automatic charges once again".
    Good luck.

Yea I can't remember what I did but I think I sent a email or talked to them on a live support and they simply turned off recurring billing :)
