Rules Is there a way to minimize or limit...

Is there a way to minimize or limit country/region-specific posts that only a certain country/region are able to relate to?

I'm talking about threads that the rest of the world are unable to participate in, like for example:
Who Is Most Sexy - Kareena Or Katrina?
Who bollywood Hero is Most Famous ?
    Who Likes Bhangra Music??

It's obviously only targeted to those people who know who Kareena & Katrina are, or are exposed to bollywood stars..
& Honestly, there's really a lot of these kinds of threads, & I'm not talking about a specific country alone (all countries will be affected for this matter, there's no bias or racism involved -grabbed those threads as an example coz they were the first ones I saw that helped me make my point).

Can't we just stick more to international discussions? (An exception for Sports probably since teams will always be representing countries & competing against other countries - & Perhaps also anything webmaster-related)

I know it's not unfair coz I can always make my own country-specific threads anytime, but that's not really what I want.

It's just that, when there's too many of those threads it just encourages users to make more, & they don't even bother explaining who these people are on their threads. It's like they immediately assume that everyone knows what they're talking about.

& Even in threads like: "What are your favorite movies?", Even though I have favorites that are local movies in my country, I never list them down because I'm thinking everyone else in the forum have probably never heard of "Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa?" < & I'm sure that title just looks weird to you all, so I only make sure to answer international movies which everyone can discuss.
Yet they answer away with titles that are foreign which I can hardly pronounce, & it's almost every other post, just kills the purpose of the thread (for the rest of the world that is).

How would you feel if the forum was just full of threads that are Filipino stuff, which only Filipinos are able to relate to?
Most of you probably don't mind but I really don't think it should be encouraged any further.

Do you have any idea how impractical that suggestion is? :) Should mods/admins just start deleting threads and banning people if they are talking about anything we don't personally know about? :)

I never suggested banning, I suggested to minimize or limit, somehow.

Okay... how would you suggest doing that in a realistic way? :)

Not so much a problem in my opinion. I recently started a topic in the Music forum about Moby - nobody knew who he was though. Problem is, with members coming from all ends of the globe it's always going to be difficult to establish common ground.

Think we should only begin worrying when the forum is overrun by threads being posted in foreign languages.

Your mods are able to find those "PM me" posts right? & They'd need to open the threads to check for those.. & That's even more work..

I'm only talking about the General Chat section (not the whole forum) since that's the only place this happens in, so.. They'd just go inside General chat (or any forum under General chat, like Movies & Music), look up & down the thread titles for a specific title that might suggest that it's not an international discussion going on in that thread, go inside to check, & close? :)

Sorry, not going to ban topics just because not everyone in the world knows about that. :)

What about the ability to remove certain subforums from the Quick Links -> New Posts drop down? For example Love* would be able to remove the Movies and Music subforum he or she has a thing against.

    You asked. :)

You can do that already by subscribing to certain forums you are interested in, then showing New Posts (or Threads) from subcribed forums (also under Quick Links).

First you must see the description of General chat section:

Anything your heart desires can be posted here.

If somebody is talking about bollywood , there is nothing wrong.. if you like you can participate or simply ignore and move to other thread. Its not always mandatory to discuss only international topics.we all are from different region or part of world.why not discuss about our movies ,culture etc in general chat and know more about each other and become good friends. This question is looking similar to a thread where a member was asking to filter thread by country. If we start to filter or separate out everything, then a community like DP will loose its meaning.

There is nothing to complain I guess.. :)

Are you kidding me? It's nothing like that because this would go for MY country as well, not just for *certain* countries. Please.
