Is there a tool for tracking Ad performance over time

One thing that frustrates me at present with the adwords system is the lack of saved data (perhaps I'm not looking in the right place).

If I run two ads side by side then change one as it is not performing as well as the second the data from the first ad seems to be lost.

I can then only compare new ad with the original ad I kept running. What happens if new ad doesn't perform as well as the old ad I deleted? How do I keep track of this?

Is there a tool (Google or external) which saves the ads over time so I can see how each performed even when they have been deleted?

    Cheers!

Ok, I have found the facility to show all ads (including the deleted ones) however for most of the deleted ads (all but the most recently deleted) all the data is set to zero.

Is there anything that could be causing this? Change of landing page perhaps? Are the deleted ads only saved for a certain length of time? seems a little crazy if it's the latter.

    Cheers again!

I think your problem is that you are looking at data for a time period when the deleted ad was not running. That's why you see zeroes.

By the way, you should never delete an ad. You should also never edit one as it deletes it. Pause the ad and create a new one.
