Is there a proper list of MUST DOs when launching a new site?

I just have no clue how to announce a new site that I am developing. I'm dropping the most I've ever spent on a site and want to take the extra step to launch it proper.

Can a TRUE PRO lend a brother a hand and put down a nice list for me? Also, if it is your primary business, shoot me over a PM with your CV and portfolio. Maybe I'll contract out some work.

Thanks for looking. Rep++ for your good advice.

Launching a new site is hard. What you need to do is avoid low quality links and make sure you get a bunch of links from the content area of blogs.

Try for natural links but use reviewme.com and payperpost.com as well.

Submit to Yahoo Directory and about 5 VERY high quality directories as well.

Don't submit to hundreds of directories OR buy sitewide links.

Also take the time to personally email bloggers in your niche to inform them about your site and introduce yourself. Give them a call as well.

Thanks for the honest and real advice. I really appreciate it. I would have thought that quantity is better...I guess that faux pas #1 avoided...

I put together a little write-up of how I went about starting my own website. It's a mix between a history and a tutorial but it may be able to help you get some ideas.

    Here is the link: http://www.planjam.com/history.html

If you have anymore questions you can just email through the contact link on the website...I am also in SoCal

Thanks, Ron. I'll check out your site. I'm sending you a PM on a separate issue.

When you have a new site, first you have to create at least 1 article, and 1 news.

So submit your article using an article submitter.
e.g -> How to create a fantastic template in 3 minutes.

Then post your new super breaking news to the press release.
e.g -> Launching of the new era web design.

Thank you for your advice. A press release is an excellent idea! Should you do more than one press release or does that dilute its worth?

Stick to one press release. Use PRweb to do it.

Also you can submit to a couple of article directories but don't submit to too many.

PRweb is great when starting a site. You'll get many backlinks and if you are lucky, some publicity that may push your site.

Another great strategy is to search your keywords in google, and visit at least 100 sites that rank in them. Some of them will have something that you can use too (I mean you can get some ideas), and others will have a way to get some relevant backlinks.

    Hey mad4!

Why not submit to more than just 5 ?

If you submit to directories with PR3+ then you allready have a good startoff. And more directories gives more traffic too. so I dont know what you meant with that.. Maybe you can explain? :)

Sites that get links from directories are sandboxed much longer and don't rank as highly.

Sites that get natural links always get great rankings.

Okay I forgot this was for new sites. But if you are out of the sandbox you can and "must" add your site to many directories.. right ? :)

Most directories are very low quality. Sure you can add to the quality ones but thats expensive. Yahoo is $300 and a lot of the others are over $100.

there are alot of Directories with over 5 in PageRank.. You can add there.. But I think below PR of 3 is not acceptable..

    Hi,

MAD4..thanks for the insight, this is the first I have ever heard NOT to submit to as many directories as you can for a brand new site.

I'm lauching a brand new blog very soon. I was planning on submitting to hundreds of directories and hundreds of BLOG directories.

So what your saying is only submit to yahoo and 5 others? How long should I wait to submit to the hundreds of directories and the hundreds of BLOG directories?

For my blog i will be:
    1) 4-5 blog posts every day, and pinging about 30 sites.
    2) i plan to write about 2 articles per day, post them on my blog. wait a few weeks and than submit them to isnare (paid service) and ezinearticles.

    Any insight MAD4?

Another great way to get your site out there is to join the social networking sites like stumbleupon.com and tribe.net. The viral nature of those will get you noticed by people and search engines alike pretty fast. Work them.

Submit ads to craigslist.org. Same kind of thing will result.

Just remember, content, content, content is going to bring your site success and the traffic you want. ;)

If it was me launching a new blog I would submit to about 5 paid directories like Yahoo and then sit down and write high quality content for about a week. 5 posts per day.

Then you can try to get your content picked up by big blogs in your niche, establish a relationship with the writers and get them to subscribe to your feed.

The first few months should be about building your RSS readership and gaining a reputation for breaking the news rather than just copying other peoples.

Pinging sites doesn't really help either.

Submit a couple of articles but keep the content for your own site rather than submitting to somebody elses.

Oregon Coast Lover has a great point. Stumble Upon the best pages in your site and get your friends to do the same.

Web directories are not so bad. Just don't submit to 100 at a time. The key is to submit to 1-2 directories per day for like a month. Of course that would be helpful only if you can't have a high pagerank inbound link.
