Hey peeps! A few months ago, I started creating an amazon store script. I am thinking about continuing the development and release it for free under some sort of open source license. So, are you in need of an amazon store script? If yes, what features would you like to see in it?
Is there a decent one out there? If so, I have not found it. Had to code my own for WordPress. Features I want in a commercial product: WordPress plugin... not a standalone system. Want it to look and feel just like a real ecommerce store. Be able to become my home page or be a secondary page. Not trash your blog functionality like ShopperPress. Work with any WP template. Browse and import products from Amazon directly. Automatically update pricing and images every 24 hours. Allow custom title and product description. Modular design. Custom categories. Allow products to be assigned to multiple categories/subcategories. Featured Product blocks. Custom HTML blocks. This isn't an easy script, BTW. I have 20k lines of code into mine and it's still not finished!
Thank you for your reply Blogfiliate! I don't think it will become a WordPress plugin as I've already spent a "few" hours building it on CodeIgniter - and I'm not experienced enough with creating wp-plugins to create a big plugin. Theming will become easy, because of MVC. Here's a screenshot of an early version, it hasn't been optimized, and it is a bit buggy, but the bugs I've been seeing is easy to fix. http://i45.tinypic.com/1z33x4l.png Could you tell me why you'd rather have it as a WP-plugin, and not a standalone app?
Sure, I can tell you. First, though, I think member freshdevelopment is well on his way to having a great Amazon store building script. From what I see on his site, he has basically created a full-featured Build a Niche Store (BANS) system for Amazon. I can't wait to see it get released. HOWEVER... and I say this with all due respect to what freshdevelopment has done... a WordPress blog solution would have been much better. I say this for three reasons: 1. A lot of people already have a Wordpress blog that they would like to add a store to; 2. There are so many nice themes and plugins already available for Wordpress; and 3. Google/Yahoo love blogs. When I make a new blog post, it gets indexed by Google in a matter of minutes. So, ultimately, I think the blogging platform would have been a better choice. That said, I'm really digging what freshdevelopment has done and wish him a ton of success. David
