i run a peer support forum for sufferers of mental health issues and while i know a lot about that subject and have put up a lot of good content, i know next to nothing about how to reach out to as many new members as possible. i have ran promos, linked the site to others, got us indexed on google but i need some more tips, so i came here. i must confess to being utterly overwhelmed by all the jargon. example, i think i understand what SEO is but as soon as i look at FAQ's or threads about it i am bombarded by all sorts of jargon that means nothing to me at all. i feel as if im going round in circles. this is not a criticism, clearly you guys are catering to far more clued up members than me and to them its great info. i would just like to suggest a pinned jargon busting thread to help out newbies and innocents like myself! i really think it would be a great addition to the site. thanks for reading. neil
When you do not understand an acronym, try Googling it. You can find most answers at your fingertips there.
yes clearly that would work, but there's about 200 acronyms i have came across since i registered a few days ago! i really do think this thread could be of great help to us novices. just a thought
I frequent another forum that has some sort of plugin that underlines any acronyms and jargon with a dotted line, and when you mouse over it, it shows what the actual word is. It is a little older version of vBulletin, but could we do something like that here? It really is handy when you are a noob about a certain subject...
