I have been using a trial DNS Plus program for my domain name server. I'm not sure I like it enough for $80. Can anyone recommend a good DNS program? I have a dedicated IP address and my server is in house. Just need a good DNS program to run on XP Pro. Thanks!
Simple DNS Plus 5.1. I even just bought it and it still has errors. I'm not going to format my entire server to get this lame program working correctly. Can you suggest anything else that is easy to use. I'm not much of a coder to use the BIND program.
DNS?? I dont understand your question. Your ISP provides you with a couple of DNS servers, then you can leach off of other DNS servers all over the internet. Very few ISPs take the time to lock down their DNS. Meaning you can use DNS servers from just about anywhere. Do a google search for SBC dns server list and you will be able to get lots of dns server IP addresses. If you want a simple, free DNS server, download and install Fedora Core, Ubuntu Linux or Free BSD on a spare computer. You can take an old Pentium 2 or pentium 3 machine and make it into a nice DNS server behind your firewall. What is it that you are trying to do? DNS servers are easy to set up or find, why would you be paying for one??
Are trying to setup DNS so internet users can locate your server and its' services? If so your ISP should be able to help you. If you are paying for a static IP address at your house, that type of service almost always includes use of their DNS servers. You just call their techsupport line and tell them you would like to add/ create some DNS records for your IP.
