Hello all, I am working on a HUGE graphics package, I was originally going to work with someone and create an exclusive, members only stock photo type site. We would offer templates, graphics, icons, headers, ecovers, etc. My business partner "backed out" (actually he just dissapeared lol). So I am now still working on all these graphics but don't really have a plan for them. I was wondering if maybe fellow DPers could help me out with some ideas. Should I package them and sell them, sell them individually, start a membership site, etc. If I do sell them, what type of rights should I offer with them, what type of prices would be good for todays market, etc. I would appreciate any help. And please excuse my post, I am not trying to advertise, I am new to this "freelance" IM thing. Cheers, Vinny
Starting your own stock photo site Is probably way too overkill... There is already a lot of competition and its a pretty big uphill slope... A couple things you could consider though.... If you have any other websites, you could leverage these graphics by giving them away for free... this is likely to attract a lot of traffic... Additionally you could request backlinkage for their use. The other, more obvious option would be to just sell them on existing stock photo sites. Such as iStock and various others...
Thanks Canadianguy. I think I may look into this giving them away with a free membership and including more in a paid membership. I have done a bit of research on membership scripts and there are so damn many i get lost in them. Any advice on that? It seems although exspensive, amember is one of the better ones.
Ofcourse selling individually will fetch you more profit and sales. I guess you are trying to create a site like envato market places. themeforest, activeden etc., As the previous buddy said there is a big competition. If you are great designer. You can try to sell in your own site. or you can submit your creations to envato to get 60% of the sales. In a way this easy to make money. I would advice to refrain from creating freebie sites...the reason you create a freebie site and work hard to get traffic, then for the return you are going to search for good ppc, and cpm networks. And the scope of the freebie sites will be just a couple of years or more. If you sell your own product by yourself or through stock sites. you can make money and concentrate on design rather than marketting of your freebie site. this IMHO
Thanks a lot Jon. I am going to design a new site and sell my graphics there. It won't be a "stock Photo" site though. I'm thinking more like a place for webmasters to get unique ecovers, templates, icons, headers, etc. including the .psd's so they can easily edit them or pay me to do so. Do you think this sounds worth the time?
Again am advicing you, Your creation should be better than the existing designers or atleast equal to the existing designs available in the net. Then there is a point developers opt you. Next important thing is traffic, you can spend 50$ permonth for initial traffic. respond in dp forums and other web developer forums. pass on your signature. Last is competitive price, few members in dp forum design a psd template for 25$ too. You should make a trade off here, with your quality and price. Show us your site after it is done, send me pm. I will be glad to see it. Good Luck
Here is my new logo! I am working on the site now and should be up by monday. I would appreciate any feedback on the logo. Thanks again everyone.
