Is there a better WYSIWIG that you WP experts use, than the one that comes standard?

    Hi,

I find that the WYSIWYG that comes in-built in WP to be very limited.

for example its difficult to paste in things from Word and it seems like I can't even
single space without having to hold down shift and when I do the page jumps. (maybe its just me)

Anyway is there a better one that you guys recommend?

I'm a joomla guy but after hearing all of the great things about WP, I
decided to give it a try but its seems a little quirky to me, but again
(maybe its just me learningthe ropes.)

    Thanks again.

Personally, I never paste things directly from Word. This typically results in really wonky code.

I also usually just use the HTML editor in WP for creating headings and paragraphs. Everything else is controlled by the CSS stylesheet.

If I want to create something more complex than a basic blog post or page (like a table of data), then I use a separate HTML editor like Microsoft Expression Web (clean code like Dreamweaver, much cheaper price).

    Thanks Michelle.

I don't really need to do anything fancy.

Yes for fancy stuff I'll use an html editor as well,
but for basic content creation its been giving me the blues - especially when it comes to spacing.

Even when I paste from notepad, which is supposed to strip all formatting, wordpress gives me issues.

So is there an alternate WYSIWYG that anyone recommends?

Thanks, will give those a look. Guess you haven't personally tried either of them?

    Nice blog BTW ;)

You can try Windows Live Writer. It will post directly to your blog, or save it as a draft on it.

It's good your going from Joomla to WP because of the fact that WP is being noticed by Google for indexing purposes and getting more profits in your pocket. To answer your question, I think just make sure you past it in HTML Mode and then switching it back to normal would get that working for you. Maybe try deleting the useful stuff you don't need in HTML Mode. Overall, This is all covered in my 40 wordpress video series.

    Thank you!

I've used TinyMCE on non-WP sites and liked it. Never had any problem with it. That said, some of my clients have had issues with it on a Mac. (This may have been on a prior version, also.)

I haven't used FCKEditor. That said, what I've used really doesn't matter. You'll have to try them to find out what works best for your. :)

I thought TinyMCE was the one that came with it. But if not I'll switch to it ASAP

I've tried editor plug ins in the past and I just use the regular editor that comes standard. Works good enough for me. I may add a few tools like an ads manager, but I really don't need a ton of extra text functions...H1,2,3, maybe bold, block quote, italics, and a color every now and then and that's pretty much all I ever use.

I do the same thing. And I haven't had any trouble with spacing issues that can't be fixed by making sure I don't have any wonky Word code hidden in my post.

There is a function in wordpress where you can paste from the word document. I have used this feature once and it seems to work for me.

I can recommend this function into the standard WYSIWYG Editor from WordPress. The essential functions of Word to WordPress are copied. It can also handle footnotes in my Word document into clickable links in my post.

If you want to preformat your Blogpost I can recommend Windows Livewriter or Blogdesk. The Firefox Extension Scribefire is also an alternative.

I use for all my WordPress Sites the standard WYSIWYG Editor and the TinyMCE Advanced. In the advanced mode it gives you more buttons and menus for formatting your posts. I use WordPress for my salesletter and have an plugin written for preformatted shortcodes what gives me more flexibility in styling my salesletter.

    Good luck!

So are you guys saying that when you are typing directly into the editor
that it doesn't double space everything?

There's no way to set it to single spacing is there, or am I missing something here?

It seems like when I want to single space, I always have to hit the shift key.
    Does TinyMCE have spacing options?

Hitting the shift key is exactly what I do to create a single space. I'm not sure I understand why that's a problem...?

Well just like when I'm typing this post
when I go to the next line I don't have
    to hit shift.

    It slows down productivity tremendously.

I pay someone type who types at 60+ words per minute and
I'm not getting nearly that with wordpress due to this shift.

And I can't copy from MS Word as it messes up the formatting.

So I take it that even with TinyMCE there's no way to set spacing
like in a regular word processor?

Huh. I can type 74 WPM and I don't find the shift key usage slows me down much at all.

Is your typist copying existing content into WP? If so, he or she just needs to remember to use the shift key to single space. Once that mental shift occurs, then this should really be a non-issue.

Ok thanks. Will keep that in mind. Hopefully it won't be an issue.

Like I said I come from a Joomla background and I didn't have to hit shift so it just seemed strange to me.
