Is the world going to end this Saturday?

This Saturday the most advanced scientific instrument ever built will be switched on in Geneva.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been built to test current theories for particle physics and scientists will try and recreate the conditions that existed just after the Big Bang by smashing parts of atoms together at high speeds.

When activated the collider could show one of the most elusive particles in our Universe, the Higgs boson, also called the "God particle". This observation could confirm the Standard Model of physics unifying three of the four known fundamental forces: electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force, leaving out just gravity.

However, other more dangerous particles will also be produced for which searches are planned, such as black holes, and never seen before particles of matter, and even now, the architects of what is being termed a "Doomsday" machine, the U.S. Department of Energy, Fermilab, the National Science Foundation and CERN are being sued in federal court over fears that this experiment may in fact destroy the planet.

Also our old friend Nostradamus’ words ring from the grave with this grim prediction:

    Nostradamus quatrain 9 44:

Leave, leave Geneva every last one of you,
Saturn will be converted from gold to iron,
"Raypoz" will exterminate all who oppose him,
Before the coming the sky will show signs.

Did Nostradamus predict the Large Hadron Collider? Will the Earth disappear into a black hole of its own making?

do you think it will make a black hole? do you think they would kill us all just for a stupid test? lol

lol i dont want to wait...i just think they should unplug it and destroy it so we can still live

they dont even know what it is going to do so it could make a black hole and kill us all:mad:

You must be kidding. Assume the fact that this machine is built in collaboration with over thousands of physicists, and you saying that they don't know what they doing, is really funny.

In 2003, they published a safety analysis report.
On top of all that, I can't see why would someone work on a machine if there was really a high risk involved. It's not like they're some mad scientist from fantasy movie.

NO. The experiment is a pea shooter compared to the gravitational pull the Earth has. Its nothing but media hype crap.

Five minutes before they flip the switch, I will strip down to nakedness. I figure if they do produce a world-killing black hole, I should have enough time to bend over and kiss my ass goodbye before dying.

You better hope they don't accidentally produce massive amounts of anti-matter, or we really will be in trouble.

Nostradamus is so vague that you can use it to predict anything you want it to be. I can also predict the number of times I will go to the loo today.

The experiment is not a useless experiment, it aims to fill up the gaps in Physics from which we can learn the nature of nature itself. The collider is accelerating atoms far too small for the human eyes, the net effect may be dangerous radiation. You are not detonating an atom bomb or things like that.

I think it's a hoax but the media have a field day trying to scare people with it. Just my opinion.

I'm anticipating this. I've been part of the LHC@Home project which has contributed to the LHC.
Initial testing of LHC abilities is scheduled to take place on August, 9th in CERN labs.
