I think so. The reason is that visitors are conditioned not to click on ads, and the CPC rates are abysmal. Does anybody else have thoughts on this? Is it worth sticking with games or moving to travel or some other higher-paying niche?
Yeah, live and learn I suppose. The bright side is that the video game niche has othe advantages: link building is a cinch compared to other areas (try building organic links for a skin cancer site, for example). As far as money making, maybe I will try selling text links or affiliate sales with Amazon.
gaming niche is one of the lowest niches that paid me (with AdSense)! I am not generalizing this... but its by far MY worst niche. Tim
As much as I agree with low CPC about entertainment, I disagree with this comment. Low traffic entertainment site sucks... I'm making quite a lot of money with entertainment niches right now. Other niches of course pay well, but my entertainment sites definitely are pulling their weight--even with low CPC. It all depends on how you tackle the situation.
Without traffic you won't make anything. I know two people who work in the gaming niche and are making $xxx/day.
Allow me to disagree... just today I am getting clicks from .2 to 1.4 per click... It all depends on the quality/origin of the traffic your entertainment sites are getting.
Depending how you place the ads, you can get around 3-5% ctr (i do). The problem is that they pay really really low per click. What's worse though, are the ringtone and free music download crap. They pay like half a cent per click.
No it's not, check out my latest interview with Zehrila owner of gamecheats.eu at Scorpiono.com http://www.scorpiono.com/interviews-with-webmasters/gamecheatseu-interview-review-the-success-story-of-a-gaming-site
Arcade sites pay low. That doesn't mean other niches in the gaming sector also pay low. My average CPC on my MMORPG gaming site was like $0.20-0.50, and with occasional dollar clicks.
It's not a high paying niche but don't give up. I was able to get my average CPM up to $2.4 and my CTR to 2.9%. Try my adsense optimization guide: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=573094
