I have started this to kind of figgure out how much the user reputation system really reflects the value and popularity of the members.

I myself have set up the system here but in a way that the user name of the person giving reputation will show up along with the comment and the vote.

I think it reflects nothing, people grade ya good or bad for silly reasons, but heck I love reading the comments.

I llike the feature a lot on my forum. As an administrator i will of course get mainly greens, but it is the comments that truly mean something to me. Adminis and Super mods are always able to view the origin of a reputation point and I figgured I want everyone to have the equal treatment. When you have a problem with another member, sometimes you don't want to say it publically or intrude via PM. I think the reputation system is actually a good tool :)

Sorry if the thread annoys anyone, for me this is very interesting :)

    Want the truth

I think it sucks and is an automatic censoring software that hurts every forum that uses it.

For example, we have had more hot threads on reputation here than any forum on earth and it is a complete waste of time

PS: Not another reputation thread on Digital Point

    LOL

I love learning. I'm obsessed with figuring out how to hack designs for Wordpress right now. I only wish I knew programming so I could setup an email newsletter manager for it as well.

General chat is my escape simply because I'm alone all day! Working by myself means I have noone to bitch at, joke with, or gossip about. :p

    That's comparing apples with pears.

Your poll asks who is the voter's most favourite member.

The rep feedback system is about individual posts.

There a lot of members I don't particularly like but I still give them credit for quality posts. Similarly I would give any of my DP favourites a red if they posted a crap message.

How can it not be accurate? Someone clicks the rate button and it gets recorded. That's 100% accurate. Whether the overall total actually reflects the real post quality balance depends on how people use and abuse the feedback system.

No TOPS, it is not a true reflection of any quality of a members contributions because there is rep padding going on, there are also members that maintain constant votes against the same folks and spread rep around for the hell of it just to vote against the same member over and over.

I know because there is one member (I think we know who he is) that constantly does this because he is in envy of some other members here and thinks that by voting their threads to one star and attempting to damage reputation AMAP that he can eventually raise his status.

Too bad his strategy has backfired on him.

PS: TOOT you do not need to show the members vote comments and name to the public, a better solution would be moderator review of the post rating and points given or taken away based on the review.

I agree that members should give their name and a reason why they feel it is a good or bad post and the moderator should allow or not allow the rep., then it could be a better system.

But my main point was Toot's wonky comparison.
