The post by ringtone geezer is actually based on a sound principle.
The multiverse explains the fact that we are here.
There was an argument once between the IDers and Quantum physicists over the nature of the universe.
the IDers said that if the big bang happened a bit faster, that no planets would have formed, and if it happened a bit slower the universe would have collapsed in on itself already, therefore this was to be taken as evidence of inteligent design.
The quantum physicists responded that the mathematics of quantum physics dictate that in a 10 dimension quantum calulation (required to make superstring theory to work) every possible permutation of universes must exist therefor allowing for cold death universes, universes that expanded to fast for galaxies to form, and our own universe.
Therefore our universe simply exists because given infinity, which our universe is part of, the chance of it being created in such a manner to allow our universe to form is garunteed to happen.
Which is fairly inteligent if you ask me.

The most accurate version is inteligent infinity.
As for a response to modern day religion, you cant put infinity in a box.
