universe - it's infininate but not. if you go in one direction for...well.....awhile...you would end up where you started, yet it is not a sphere. Read Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything(it's science). Even if you are a christian, it's always important to keep an open mind about science.

I dont thinks the universe is infinite. It is vast beyond human comprehension but I believe it has a limit.

I don't think we can definitely say that it is infinite or limited. Scientists are constantly trying to decide on the actual nature of the universe and make it conform with our understanding of physics.
The universe is expanding though. we can prove that by the red glow of stars as they grow apart.

this might be a little off topic but i just read this on the news on my phone it said that scientists believe that the planet mercury has moltant liquid in its core, which is fine whatever.
BUT guess how it said they came to this conclusion!
the report said that they used the same method as a cook does to tell if an egg is hardboiled or not (one spins fast the other doesnt)....
what the hell kinda scentific method is that?!!?

    just makes me wonder......

On the contary, I know the answer. Science proves that the universe is not infinite. This is evidenced by the observation of red shifted distant stars (read about the Doppler effect). These red shifts could only arise if the wavelength of the emitted light was being lengthened with time, which in turn could only happen if they were deviating from Earth. If the edges of the universe are able to move in this manner then it can't be infinite.

There is also a theory called slow light which says that photons that travel a big distance (billions of light years) are stretched slightly due to the interference of other particles, kind of like the gravitational lensing effect, so the actual redshift may be bigger or smaller than scientists assume right now.

IF you watch the video (URL posted above) you will see the explanation of how it is possible to travel faster than light.

Just quickly replying, the universe it not static and infinite. Instead, it is actually expanding (the actual 'edge' of the universe keeps getting larger and larger by the second)... which would give the allusion of an infinite entity.

I took some advanced astronomy class a year ago and found that fact fascinating. I'd try to find some articles, but need to finish up a couple term papers ;).

Isn't Bill Bryson the traveller? What would he know about the universe?
