Wow now that's a solid argument . I suggest you join the great movement #SuicideAmerica it's been going on for some decades and if you give it 30 to 40 more years it will succeed and transform the USA in a 3rd world county .

Actually, Bill9404's was replying to this notion:

"Will the U.S. recover? Yes, but NOT until AFTER a TOTAL collapse of EVERYTHING, including but not limited to 1) the economy, 2) the government, 3) the country, etc. The collapse will make the current Greek economic mess look like heaven."

@Apocalypse - In my opinion, it's just doomsday speech to say a complete US economic, government, and country collapse is inevitable, and for whatever reason, Greece will be like heaven in comparison. I just don't find that realistic, and yes, I've been hearing that end of the world prediction as well for years and years. We've actually made it through much harder times than this. I don't think it will be easy, but to say we're going to collapse and become a third world country (your prediction), just seems a little hysterical. But, you're actually Romanian. What future do you feel Romania has, is it any more positive than what you believe is in store for us?

    Oh , OK .

I'm not talking about a collapse , the processes that cause the US to decay are not overnight processes . Economic collapse will take over 30 years , the goverment will never really collapse since it's the best milking cow on the planet . The USA will simply end up being a failed state , the future is similar for the EU but we might have bit more time then you .

IMHO the cause of the collapse is the continuous decay of the US society , you can't have a working society when drug consumption is record high , you can't have leaders and scientific breakthroughs when education is in a free fall , you can't have prosperity when wealth is leaving the country at an accelerated rate , you can't have financial stability with a 15 trillion USD debt and you can't have a national identity without true patriotism . The American dream of prosperity can't be saved , the question is will the US be saved ? So far the odds are against it .

Also name the much harder times please . I'm not an American so I'm not that good when it comes to US history .

    @Apocalypse

Your reply back seems a bit contradictory (bolded). But, I would gather from your reply, at minimum you believe the US is going to be a third world country soon. You're not an American, admittedly, you claim you don't even know our history. Yet, for some reason you want to tell Americans that our country probably can't be saved? Pfft.

Collapse , decay , fall , etc. those are just words . I can understand your indignation but the numbers say that the US state is doing badly and will do worst and that the American nation is almost no more . The name of America won't disappear but it will probably start looking more and more like South Africa .

Education is on the free fall , after the clients I had in 2011 I'm almost starting to believe in the "stupid american" stereotype . It's not just bad , it's a disaster . Seeing the idiots of OWS makes me shake my head in disbelief even more . America has stopped being proud , America is hungry , America is poor , the situation was never rosy in the US or in any country of the world but things have never been grimmer . IMHO if the US doesn't do something radical in the next 10 years it will be a doomed nation , a place that might as well nuke itself to cut short it's misery , don't worry Europe is in the same situation we just have an 8 to 15 years more then you .

I'm probably going to be accused of being nationalistic, but that's ok. Think of the most intelligent posters on this forum, Browntown, EarlPearl, and Obamanation, all Americans. Coincidence? I think not. But this is just a goldfish bowl. Look outside this forum (created by an American), and many of the greatest minds happen to be Americans. We have invented so many useful products, and we have the highest number of patents in the world. It's not just money that makes America great, it's Americans that make America great. In our land, it's incredibly diverse - from the dry desert to the lush forests. I've seen so much beauty here, for me, it's not in the city, but the more remote places. For example, the grand canyon. Look at some of our landmarks. As far the OWS protesters, they do have some legitimate complaints. I'm sure we'll work it out. South Africa? Again, pfft.

WTF ?!?! Accused of being nationalistic ? See this is why I've said that the US society is rotten , you guys are are ashamed of being patriotic when not at a BBQ . It's like massive guilt floating in the air . Do patriots eat babies or what ? Is it wrong to love your country ? Is it wrong to be proud of who you are ?

The tip of the US spear is still kind of sharp , the support is rotten however .

    Education :
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/22/AR2006052201187.html
    http://www.voxeu.org/index.php?q=node/930
    http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Stossel/story?id=1500338

You know it is a problem larger then life . Also innovations and patents are just the rewards of previous scientific breakthroughs . Which are almost non-existant . You can shake your head in disbelief and ignore me . It will be painful to see you guys go .

Our scientific breakthroughs are almost non-existent? You've got to be kidding. Start here:

"The Breakthrough of the Year is an annual award made by the journal Science for the most significant development in scientific research." - Wikipedia ...This Wikipedia page lists the awards for breakthroughs of the year from 1996-2010. Not surprisingly, almost every year - Americans!

5 Recent breakthroughs in Nanomedicine - 3 out of 5 by Americans

Here's the Top 50 Inventions of the Past 50 Years - Popular Mechanics -- Wow, scrolling through this list it looks like most of these inventions were by Americans.

    More...8 Great discoveries by Americans.

This list is in no way complete. I could come up with so many more examples.

Rather than denying reality, you should just say "Thank you!"

I'm not denning the reality , you're the one that tries to tone it down . I can understand that , no one wants to see the gruesome reality , let alone do something about it .

As for science have a closer look : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_scientific_discoveries#21st_century . We're not living in a golden age of science , we're living in a golden age of applied research . We're only reaping the rewards of the previous decades and century .

As for the thank you I'll say thank you when you will have American scientists invent things . In the past decades America has imported more brains then any other country . The number of Edison like inventors in the US is growing smaller and smaller . The latest US achievement world can say thank you is putting a man on the moon , although even in that case we need to say thank you to a German guy named von Braun and to the incompetent doctors that killed a Russian guy name Korolev . There simply is nothing to say thank you ATM .

Apocalypse, you said that scientific breakthroughs of the US are almost non-existent. Honestly, it's hard to imagine anyone, anywhere, actually believing that. The fact that you still want to deny, ignoring all evidence, makes me believe you're probably just a hater. So, go ahead and spew out your nonsense about how the US is going to be a third world country soon. Obviously, it makes you feel better for some reason. But, as I said before, it's just meaningless doomsday speech.

I think that the United States may go the way of the template it was modeled after, the Roman Empire.

First, our military will be cut back and bases overseas will be closed. That means overseas trade routes can't be protected. As U.S. exports suffer, the U.S. economy will diminish in it's importance, to be replaced by China's emerging middle class.

Keep in mind that at any time, a coordinated effort between China and Russia to dump U.S. securities and debt would literally collapse the U.S. economy to non-existence. That means no money. That means no gas at the pumps and no food in the supermarkets, even for Rockefellers.

Thanks Rebecca it's obviously I am a hater , you can clearly see that because I always wear my "Death to Americans" t-shirt  . In fact I hate you guys so much that I even said that Europe is in a similar situation . You can clearly see me spewing hatred just like my hero and mentor Ahmadinejad the Dwarf

I don't speak non-sense , I voiced my opinion and showed evidence . You can ignore it and carry on or we can talk about it . Your choice really .

@Corwin The entire Wester Society is based on Roman Law and Roman Politics . It's funny that 1400 year latter we still fail to stop the decay coming from the inside. It's also funny but sad that the final nail might be one again delivered by the same islamists that did it over a millennium ago .

    Re: Sapphire Energy

I'm in the semiconductor and technology industry and I've worked with many startups. I've learned four irrefutable facts about alternative energy:
    1. The slicker the alternative energy company presentation, the less lilely the company will make money.
    2. Except for nuclear, alternative energy science is essentially unchanged over the past 30 years
    3. Nothing will take the place of oil, ever
    4. The only feasible source of "alternative energy" for power generation is nuclear power.

The United States is the only country that has not embraced nuclear power. The USA is also the only country without an energy policy.

I hate to burst your bubble Corwin but AFAIK the nuclear option is also in short supply . I forgot the exact number of years but it's not more in 80 or something like that if we would go pure nuclear . However coal has 130 more years left , if we play our cards right we can make it with that .

Hmmm... I've never heard that. Toshiba has nuclear generators about the size of a school bus that can be buried underground and supply power for a small city. It's my understanding that the supply of nuclear power is practically inexhaustible.

It is.. The problem we have is all of our nuclear power plants were built 30 and 40 + years ago.. A lot has changed since them. We are dealing with old, outdated and inefficient plants that produce more waste than power.

We very might well be beyond repair. Washington has truly let their guard down and now we are dominated with an economy infected with bad assets, unreliable stimulus package, and everything else. The instant they decided to start bailing out banks for their own mistakes is the second they ignored the fundamentals of capitalism. Businesses have to fail. Now they have used way too much political capital to back out now, which will only lead to more bailout spending in the future, and lower interest rates. The capitalistic system has been so flawed by regulation and oversight by the Federal government, that until new policy is set forth we will not get any better.
