Compared to what seems to be the majority I am ancient in terms of website owners etc at 46. Seems that alot of the people I deal with that have some great skills are very much younger, so it seems to me my generation is not the one that enjoys the biggest sucsess on the web. Or am I wrong?
I would have said 46 is way too old for the internet you should be doing something like crown green Bowls or Ball room dancing
I am not that young either but have had some success. I think it is important to remeber that the web is changing all the time, so once you are active you will start to catch up rapidly. For example, the way web marketing is done has changed radically since i started in the late 90's. Also remeber a lot of these young webmasters areaddicted to online games, lol. It sounds funny but really a lot spend 80% of their online time playing games (which has been proven to actually be very healthy for mental alertness, much like chess, but is still not directly making you any money). The youngins' are talented, yes, but the work ethic is important also.
I dont know about age but i think young people are more energetic and can work harder than older ppl!!! i am 17
I think its due largely on the fact that the internet is also fairly young, and most young people are growing up with it. You can do so much with computers now, than you could probably do 20 years ago, not to mention they are very affordable, so most people have them. Most young people around today live their years with computer interaction, as opposed to their parents that prefer to do other things because they don't really understand computer. For example, I'm a software engineer, but my mom doesn't even know how to turn on a computer.
Wisdom comes with age. As long as you're willing to put all that wisdom you've accumulated over all those years to use, you can be very successful. The advantage younger people have, is the energy, and ability to keep up with all the changes happening in the wild world of technology.
There are many successful list owners that seem to be older. I started to do ezine and newsletter marketing and every list owner I spoke to over the phone seemed like they were a lady in her mid 50s!
Its because kids were taught to use the PC at school. They have more free time too. Older people aren't always as tech enthusiastic and have less free time due to full time jobs. Kids want extra cash, older people may be happy with their salary.
That's right. It is the willingness to learn that makes the difference. The generation gap favors the younger and tech savvy kids who make hay when the sun shines
From my point of view there is no agebar for the success whether it is young or old But there is little more success for younger in compare to older DON.
It's because younger generations grew up with computers and the internet all around them, it's natural for them to know more about it (due to the taking in of information, whilst you are young your mind is like a sponge, it absorbs a hell of a lot).
Older people can succeed in it as well as young people. It's not a matter of how old you are or what generation you grew up in. If you can learn about it and understand it than you can also succeed, if you have the consistency. It's unrealistic to give up just because of your age. I know a lot of people over 45 who have trouble understanding computers and yet, theres a ton of people over the age of 50 who have made success with computers. I actually subcontract from a web designer who is over 50 and he's awesome as what he does. Most authors who have written books on computers are not too young. I'm 18 and I've been in computers for a few years. Older people have business values etc. that younger people can't always understand. So as far as doing business or making money on the web--go for it! In terms of the internet. Remember computers have been around long before a lot of us were here. So there are "old timers" who know a crazy amount about computers that we don't know. Like the last poster said. When we're young we absorb so much that we take it with us for the rest of our lives.
I think that in terms of what people are successful with online, there is a big difference in age groups. Most of the older people who have businesses online are selling a product, not doing affiliate marketing. Either that, or they're running forums and writing newsletters. Most people on the article sites like HubPages and Squidoo are actually in their 30's to 50's, and some into their 70's. People with knowledge want to be somewhere where they can share it. Younger users want to make money, because that's the stage of life they are in. I admire them. I know that I have a hard time with affiliate marketing, and social networking, because I'm not at an age where socializing is my thing anymore. I really wish the internet had been like this when I was much younger, but it hadn't even been invented yet!
A few good points brought up here. I think as a younger generation we should not only look at the popular money making methods in our age group but explore out side and see other effective things to get into. If 50-60-70 year olds are on Squidoo than we can do the same thing, as long as it's beneficial. I don't like to think of myself as being in an age group. I'm just an open minded person looking for new markets to invest time and money in. The things I find to be the best is what I get into. I like Blogging, Social Networking, Developing, Offering web services etc.
Actually it's all about the creativity and skills. those new generation always have a better of those but it doesn't mean that the 30+ish can not do it. If you have those no matter how old you are, you can be succeed too.
i think the reason lots of the webmasters etc. are young is that it is something they can do without be judged incapable, no one knows their age (unless they advertise it) so people do not automatically assume that they are not the right choice. (I'm 15 by the way)
