I'm looking to start a new website, & have been considering SEO as a possible niche, I would be aiming my site at technophobes with very little experience in webdesign or development, offering advice and other services. Do you think that this niche is too saturated for me to be able to create an effective site in? All comments appreciated
yes. you have to also concider that your visitors are mostly webmasters. thats a badthing since webmasters dont click ads.
And how do you plan to make money from these people since AdSense will not work as anyone who is familiar with Web design will rarely click your ads?
Personal opinion: SEO IS a saturated niche with a countable high-price companies sitting at the top, thousands in the middle and dozens shutting down every week. The question you should ask yourself is that are you really an expert in this field? Do you understand how fierce the competition could be? How much are you willing to invest (both in terms of money and time)? If you really are passionate about SEO, I guess you can always give it a try...but keep looking for other niches that might interest you too Goodluck~
It is much more difficult to monetize webmaster traffic. If you are doing it for the money then there are better niches but if it's more of a passion then that's different.
It's true that webmaster don't click on ads very often, but there are other ways to make money of course. But to be honest, the SEO niche might just be the hardest to succeed in. Your competing with SEO gurus and companies. It's going to be very hard, you'd better narrow your niche down a lot.
It's so saturated the people who have already been in it for years are trying to find niches within the niches.
Not at all, I use this nich and my site is doing very very well! I just targeted my own towns and surrounding areas and once I got good serbs on those keywords I then moved to the bigger keywords
The SEO market may be saturated, but there are a lot that don't know what they are doing. There will always be room for people who know what they were doing.
The SEO niche is fairly well covered. what you shoudl do is specalise withine the Niche. Try doing a great blog on link baiting, become the expert on that. Or the facebook expert. If a ninche is saturated you need to get more niche.
It is a very saturated niche indeed. The thing that makes it harder that it is "SEO" and your competitors are SEO PROS and they are doing their best to positionate their websites as well. One strategy that always works is developing a veeery good looking site and be featured by some CSS Gallery website... I bet that will give you some clients. The other strategy is to focus your target market and try contact them directly offering your services by email, regular mail, visiting their business, etc.
No offense, but that would be like asking if you are qualified to open a dance school without ever having taken a dance lesson. You should you spend your time on something you know about. If it is SEO. And you dominate the search engines, then sure.... Go into the SEO field. Just be warned, the black-hatters will destroy you if you get too close to their top spots.
Yes it's pretty saturated, however as mentioned above it really depends on how much skill and knowledge you have and also how much time you have to put into it. Nothings inpossible, but you would be entering into a extremely competitive market, so it would be far from easy.
It seems people are not marketing to webmasters correctly. Instead of giving them more SEO ads try and give them New Video Games, Hot girls(guys), vacation ideas, discounts on scotch or beer, toys to set on their desks, etc... We all know that every webmaster already knows it all, so give them something they crave or desire, not something they already know! OP, I would say you will need to show your abilities. IF you can beat out all of these others that have been in it for years, then getting business will be no problem what so ever as you will be helping people to make money. But as mentioned, have your shit straight before you open yourself up to a world of webmasters, they can be brutal. Good Luck!
Not really saturated if you move your target from experienced webmaster. Instead, you should specific your niche to target newbies webmaster so that they will come to your site for tips.
Again the question is, how will he monetize on these beginner webmasters since most of them will not pay money to get information but will expect it to be free, even more so than advanced webmasters?
Actually I would have said this was the most saturated area - people who only heard about SEO 6 months ago, giving 'beginners tips', because frankly, that's all they know.
Yes, the SEO field is over-saturated. It's so saturated that it's beginning to flood over. It's gotten so saturated that you now have niches within that niche: SEO for beginners, Intermediate SEO, Advanced SEO, SEO for Social Networks, SEO for people who wear plaid (okay, this may be one that's not taken yet..).... you get the point... The other point that was already mentioned is monetization. Webmasters rarely click on ads, though I do try and constantly tell myself not to just automatically block out ads as I've found some pretty good stuff through ads I've clicked on before. You've got to consider that webmasters are geeks. Advertising specials from ThinkGeek.com (if they have an affiliate program) or t-shirt hell or something along those lines are going to be a better fit for income for your site than something like AdSense or AdBrite. How much of an expert are you at SEO? Since you said that you'd be offering services to technophobes, you might be able to successfully run a local marketing business, but I wouldn't bank on targeting an area larger than maybe a 100 mile radius from where you are. You'll want those face to face clients that will bring you repeat design and updating type business and refer other business owners. Anyhow, whatever you decide to do, good luck!
