Hi, Is it bad to use a H1 tag site wide? As in the same keywords throughout the whole site and in the same position? The reason i ask, if i ive seen a site with a h1 which is the sites name, part of their logo. There appears to be different h2/3's etc on each page, just the same h1's. Thanks fuzz
I'm not sure exactly what you are meaning but I think I am right with this. Basically, you should always do it logically and not make your website so search engine oriented that it doesn't make sense. This layout makes sense: <h1>Restaurants</h1> <h2>McDonalds Fast Food Restaurant</h2> <h2>Red Lobster Fine Dining Restaurant</h2> <h2>IHOP 24 Hour Restaurant</h2> You would still be targeting "restaurant" and it be in a logical order.
php gator thanks for the reply taking your example i mean if the restaurant was called "Restaurants are Us" <h1>Restaurants are Us</h1> <h2>McDonalds Fast Food Restaurant</h2> <h2>Red Lobster Fine Dining Restaurant</h2> <h2>IHOP 24 Hour Restaurant</h2> The h1 Restaurants are Us would be on every page as it forms part of the logo. So instead of the logo being just a jpg its actually text. Basically can a site, have the same H1 on every page? thanks fuzz
Yes it can, I've got this on one of my websites. I probably would not recommend it though. I would try to spread the love and target more than just one key phrase, but theoretically it should be fine.
Proper structuring of your web pages wouldn't include the same heading tags on each web page. They should be used to structure your content and not juice search engines.
I would not recommend that, even from a search engine point of view. Making different H1 (and title) per page and adapting them to the content of each page would make them more relevant to this specific content, and help improve the positionning of this page. If you're H1 is the same all over the site, then it's not anymore a title for the page, but just a simple information. I usually try to make my H1 and my title very similar, and different for each page. That does not prevent to include some key words in "most of" your H1
