I signed up with MylesBetter (looked in google for 'top position on google' [click here]) and I saw the the MylesBetter was rank #2, so i read on and decided to invest about $450 on the SEO.

I just wanted to know if the pricing is fair for the service being offered?

for more about the service visit the sites homepage at MylesBetter.co.uk ( i did not want to make it a link  !)

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

unfortunately this completely depends on what they do for you. if you don't gain your desired positions or an ROI, then no. If you make more than $450 though, sure, was a decent move :). If you beat the stock market on your investment, it's a win

I'm way of any company that says:
What will the top 10 positions be? non competitive phrases or terms that you decide on?

I signed up for something like that once, 1st thing they sent me was a report from IBP. I emailed them and let them know I had IBP :) they coverted me to the paid link program and gave me 3 months extra free. Which got me ranked faster anyway

Back to the original question - If you're ranked well in the next 1-3 months (that would be on the first page) and if your site is conversion friendly, than yes. It is well worth the investment. Also, I believe your service/product and industry matter a lot too. If you sell trinkits and depend on volume your ROI would be less than, for example, a plastic surgeon who'll make much more on his/her ROI from just ONE lead by having a well optimized site. Hope this helps. ;)

The price you should pay is a function of the competitiveness of the keyword you're trying to rank for. The amount you paid is on the low range of what I charge per month for SEO. However, I typically go after very competitive keywords for clients.

$450 is nothing for seo work. I know of some people that probably charge that just to look at your site. Eh, Dave?

Lots of so-called seo's will advertise their services and say top 10 on the search engines, take the money and then tell you that you can only get top 10 positions for stupid keyword phrases, with the quotes. Not saying that's the case here of course! It's just what happens.

Have a read through Stuntdubl's list of 10 things to ask your seo company

I think a good SEO expert should strive to make top 10 rankings for the client. Some people frown on SEOs that guarantee their work. Not all SEOs are created equal. I agree that the bad apples have tainted the industry for the guys that actually get results. Why should someone invest thousands of dollars without having a benchmark to justify the investment? That is why I guarantee my work, which adds more risk to me; however, to minimize risk I always take on projects I am confident I can succeed based on my experience and level of expertise. You simply have to budget the risk factor in your estimate.

I work for an SEO company and i can say we charge a lot more than that, typically it would be £150+ per month to do SEO work mainly because it takes time, we dont just optimise your page then leave it we go back each month adding new content to it, building up quality links and writing articles for the site. All of them things can be quite time consuming and therefore can be quite costly depending on the keyword. However as someone has already mentioned its all about the return on investment, most of our clients are ecommerce companies and an investment of £1800 over a year(150 per month) will generate more than £1800 of new business. After 6 months if the site has not had an improvement in profits then we will quite often offer a number of months free of charge. Though we have not done that since i have started as all the websites have performed well!! luckily for me!!!

Here's the problem with their claim. No one searches for "top position on google" so it isn't even a mildly competive term and won't bring any traffic. Who cares if they rank #2, they should be ranking number one for a term no one even searches for (according to wordtracker).

$450 isn't anything for a ranking of a competitive term. There are companies that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in the mortgage industry to rank in the top ten. If they guarantee a top ten ranking for something like "hosting" or "home loans" - then I would run from them.

Make sure you get to specify the keywords (without quotes) - Make sure the keywords you are targeting are going to bring you traffic even if they are successful - Get their refund guarantee in writing and pay for it with a credit card so you have recourse for a charge back if they don't refund your money.

I would be very skeptical of any company that guarantees a top ten ranking for competitive terms - especially for $450.

$450 would buy you most of a link building program from me, with a minimum of keyword research. That would not include optimizing your site, paid directories, or a plethora of other things. If they can get you to the top in your chosen key words and keep you there. Then you got a good deal. I really doubt you are going to get much for that though. Of course I am in a competive non-spam industry. My cleints pay to get there the "Google Aproved" way and stay there. I'm not competing for viagra, casinos, mortgages, or mesothelioma lawyers. (I wonder if I spelled that right).

I did everything myself and rank #4, #11, and #14 in MSN for relatively competitive keywords for one site, and #9, #20, #16 for another. I have only been working on this for slightly over a month.

The fact is, you could get great results on your own, assuming you have the time.

However, I hope they get you #1 for all your keywords and you should whip them like a rented mule until they do.

$450 is nothing compared to what can be charged in a competitive market. I got a quote from SEO Inc of $95,000 a year for one of my websites. It's all relative to the amount that you stand to make. Sites that currently own the serps for the terms that SEO Inc quoted me are turning over $10,000+ per day. So if you are going to make more than you put in, then it is a good investment!
