Is the front page of my site compelling?

    Hi

For the past three days I have had over 600 uniques to my new site, but only a handful of signups (genuine traffic, not bots etc).

The obvious point to me is that the front page of the site is not compelling people to sign-up and look around further.

So I would appreciate people popping over to www.jemple.com and telling me what they think of the front page. Its meant to be bright and fun as its demographic is 13-21 year olds, but is it to cluttered, to much info? You know the score, please let me know your opinions.

    Thanks

    Jason

I visited the site and I read the text on the first page but I still have no
idea what the site is about. You should have some text on the first page
thoroughly explaining to your visitors what your site is about.

I had exactly the same feeling, all the text different font sizes and colors are super misleading and you have no flow at all.

you need to make it clear to people what the site is about. One point that i will have to make that has worked well for me in the past is create a rectangle object right under the menu and have a graphic sign up button. If people see it 1st then there is a higher chance of them signing up. I was getting 1-2 sign ups per day once this was in place i was getting 5-10 per day ;) works great.

I have de-cluttered it and tried to make it straight 'in your face' about what the site is. Better?

When I first went to your site I had no idea what it was for. I saw the Slogon "A Place To Be" and I kinda got the hint it might be a blog/myspace type site. Then box under the box cleared up a lot about it. Although it cleared it up I think that there should be something else on the site as well that catches your eye to show you its a social network of some sort. Other then that I really like the design and might sign up to see what its all about ;)

I feel that the yellow-orange box on the right should be on the left. That's where most users (or maybe its just me) look first. They go from left to right. If I were you I'd switch the Join Now pic's position with the Login and Yellow-Orange box. That'll bring more focus to the box and will let the user know what your site is about. Also try changing the color of the box. It doesn't go too great with the rest of your site. Other than that, I really like your site's design. It's clean, sleek, and professional!

The small blurb of an explination needs to be streamlined, a little less conversational. Just imagine you made powerpoint about your website and the bullets on the slide "what is my website" were listed with commas. That'll give you a starting point for a better catchphrase, etc.

Well im not sure if he/she has changed it since your post but when i first went to site i see its a social networking site. lol

So not sure how you dont know what site is about lol

But as for the site i dont like the bottom part of your site the the links are to spread out wasting page space, make it more compact.

A good idea you could do to make people sign up, is to allow users to search instead off logging in, or have some kind scroller showing members on the home page.

Hi ... lots of potential, for your site. Design is clean, likely easy to navigate, but, as others, I don't get a direct sense of your purpose. After taking the tour, I suspect by up-loading videos or pics and actively engaging other members, I might get a discount at Amazon. Great! You need to say it, loud and clear, on the home page. A good start, I'd say. Best of luck.

It looks ok I hate the bottom of the page, it looks dirty, the color and the image doesn't balance out well, I would say it looks to bright or should I say perky, explanation of the site below the login is too long, I would think your target age group have very little attention span.

Here's a few other points you might also want to consider:

    * Maybe those 600 uniques weren't your target audience? If they are 13-21 year olds but say computer geeks or young entrepreneurs, a social media site might not be what they're looking for.

    * 600 is not a lot of traffic. Depending on what a "handful" is, with the amount of sign-ups you got for that amount of traffic, you might not be off track at all.

generally quite appealing, footer links have loads of space round them (they should be tucked away). like the colour scheme. its a work in progess but on the right tracks

Its very nice and to me obvious what its about so that is very good. However I don't like the footer at the bottom of the site - its MASSIVE!

    Good luck

I personally think it looks pretty good, although If i had to change something I would change the yellow explanation box you got going there. Besides pushing it up a bit so that everything is properly aligned I would also change the color to something that works well with pink, like lime green. And then change the font color to a dark grey instead of black. Other than that it looks great :)

Design is Cool...! But, you have to work more on the home page. Also I feel too much padding for the footer links.

You have to create a fixed main navigation on top.

Finally if you have a real voice behind the video tour you can convert more visitors in to registered users. I suggest you to not to direct to a new page for the tour. Use some Ajax lightbox for it.

    Best of luck..!
