A few years ago it was easy to get good domains that you could make big money of. Today, it's much more tricky. Right?
Wrong... You need to come up with an original name, like a brand or a trademark of your own and not a domain like nichekeyword.tld If you want to include your keywords in your website address then go for the .net, .biz, .info and the such...
Thats bad advice if you are looking to build a site that gets traffic beyond SERPs. For example, if you have a non dot com domain, a large percentage of your potential visitors may be mistyping it and landing on the dot com. If you competitor buys the dot com, your in trouble. ESPN bans online gambling sites from advertising, and bans sites with links to online gambling sites from advertising. Yet, online poker and casino sites spend big money advertising their .net site -- why, because people just go to their web browser and type in the dot com. Branded domains like Yahoo, Google, and Amazon work great for big companies or other unique sites such as Slashdot or del.icio.us. If you are in a niche market they are not an advantage. The premium dot com market will probably rise by 25% or more this year. Thats just a guess, but considering the trends I've seen over the past year both in the domain business, and other investment markets, I believe its a very conservative estimate.
