If I edit the image from other website, and put the edited image in my site without a "source" link. It is legal or it's still need a link to its source to make it legal even if its edited or not?

Please reply to those people who really know it 100% percent.. Thank you!

No, it's not "legal" to make modification to an image - it's still infringement (a derivative copy). Adding a link also does NOT give you permission to use an image in the first place. You need express permission to use an image or illustration you did not take or create.

Upto $200,000 fine for this :( (Many you use their TM image... )

Don't do this until you get a written permission

How about the image at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Saint_Peter_statue.jpg

It said on its licensing is, "I grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law."

Can I edit that image, and put in my blog without any link to the source?

    Please help, thanks.

The answer is probably yes, you can edit the image and use it in your blog without a link to the source. However, there are two caveats:

The person releasing it into the public domain admitted that his brother took the picture. He says that he has the permission of his brother to release the photo into the public domain, but there is always the possibility that his statement is not true.

Second, since this is a photo of a statute, the right to use the image of the statue itself is a completely separate issue. For example, if you go to a movie and take a photograph of a scene on the screen, you will own the copyright to your photo but that does not give you the right to display the copyrighted content of the film displayed in your photo. In this case, the sculptor may have a copyright in the sculpture that is violated by the photo.

Don't do this, just change the edited photos.

Thank you, 'Business Attorney' for the complete information. I will just put a "Saint Peter statue, Israel" (words) below my edited photo which is in my blog as like as in the Wikipedia. Again, thank you!

Watermarks have nothing to do with it.
