Is the Economic Downturn Hurting Profit per Click?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by ThisIsOli, Jun 17, 2008.

So I have noticed recently that the amount of money I am making per click on luxury items (Ie Tech and Gadgets) has taken a severe downturn from around $0.30 - $0.70 a click on average to $0.05 - $0.30.

Has anyone else noticed this, is it due to luxury good profits going down and less people bidding for adverts on adsense?

Or is it just my site attracting lower value adverts? :p :(

Either way it is not good news for me!

My traffic is all google organic, the click through rate and number of visitors has not changed significantly, only profit per click!

Sure. There will be less people looking to buy (hurt your CTR) and less paying for adwords (hurting your CPC).

Yes, the sucky economy definately hurts PPC revenue. Less advertisers are using Adwords, and they are paying less when they use it.

Also, the internet is PACKED with MFA (made for adsense) websites that have very little content, or non-useful content. This also hurts the PPC revenue. Adsense is slowly but surely banning MFA websites.

On my electronic niche site, revenue per click is half what it was just a few months ago. In an automotive niche site, the same applies.

As people purchase less goods and pay more for food, gas, etc., many companies will get less sales. With fewer sales, they will scale back their advertising...

I have also seen a big decrease in the earning per click for one of my Gadgets related blogs. I hope this is just a temporary problem.

I also noticed it too, made less than half for the same clicks made last month.

Nice to know it's not just me then I guess, it's a shame the sector is in a slump though as it is an area I raelly enjoy writing about!

Are there any other sectors suffering from this? At a guess I would say nearly all luxury sectors will be in downturn where as financial advice and similar will be noticing profits, its jsut a shame that market is so crowded with made for adsense sites. It will be good news for me if google does crack down on these though, asd I keep my sites regularly updated and unique content rich!

I've check the price of the keywords I target - they are still the same price to bid on. My traffic hasn't dropped. Much the same ads are still running. Which leads me to believe that Google is simply taking a bigger chunk of the advertising revenue from webmasters.

If that is true then it is not good news, simply because it means that it isn't short term.

An economic downturn always rises again, but if google has upped the percentage it takes then it will be a permenant reduction in profit, one which is costing me quite dearly.

I never really checked the costs of my keywords, I may have to start doing so though!
