I experimented a bit and it seems that comments on Disqus are not searchable on Google because they are shown using Javascript. My question is how detrimental is this to SEO? My commenters do occasionally mention my target keywords in the comments and this may be somewhat important. But is the sacrifice small enough to offset the increased comments I may get from Disqus? Disqus makes it REALLY easy to comment because you can log in using Twitter or Facebook. What do you guys think about Disqus?
I've used Disqus before, but like you said, the Java is a downside to it. I'm sure there are alternatives that are similar without the Java. See what you can find, or maybe someone on here can recommend something.
