Is the Business.com Directory worth it?

It is $299 dollars to be included into the business.com directory. Forst is it worth it? And second what kind of benefits can I expect to reap? When I do a regular search on business.com my company comes in #6 in the natural results?

Really depends on your niche, if it's highly competitive then yea. Otherwise... it really depends. I most cases probably not. I've got a few listings but probably won't be submitting anymore.

It really depends on your promotion budget and goals. Major corporations or those with large bugdets for advertising and promotion it would be worth it in my opinion. It is a listing on an authority site after all.

2 of my sites are listed at business.com but i dont really find any advantage of getting listed there, unless you can find your competitors already listed and you need a better brand.

I would say no. It's not worth it to me, at least.
$299,- for one link at Directory.com?

I can get more targeted traffic/PageRank, for less, or even NOTHING.

If you are beating your competitors already in SERPs I wouldn't bother.

I have seriously considered recommending that my clients buy business.com links in a few instances. In every case we got better placement than the business.com-linked competitors before I could make up my mind.

You can use focused, conventional SEO techniques to outrank larger, more established competitors fairly quickly in most keyword niches. Business.com sponsored links are not magic, they are just easily obtained for those who don't mind the cost.

if you already did all backlinks strategy and dont know whatelse to do with the spare money, just go for it. I'm sure you can get some traffic and strong back link from business.com.

... when you can get listed in Yahoo for free?

If your page is well optimized for Google it will rank well when submitted to Yahoo's free submission service.

Only one caveat: Google does not pay attention (much) to meta Keywords; Yahoo DOES. Don't leave them out or you'll be disappointed :)

    Agreed.
Even to those small companies, $299 is also a small money.

As a matter of fact, you just gave me an idea, since my web directory site is almost better than business dot com , I am going to model after them and charge less.

    thanks

    Competition is good.

Maybe we can work together and Kick A to busineeeess dot com

The pie is big enough for both of us.

You will never forget the domain name I am using...never!!!
