Is the an advantage to using BANS or PHPBay over eBay's Editor Kit?

    Hello,

I'm new to Digital Point and have been reading about BANS and PHPBay. I would like to add auctions to my site and I'm not sure if I should purchase one of these programs or just use eBay's Editor Kit. What is the advantage of using BANS or PHPBay over just using eBay's Editor Kit?

My site is established and has good traffic. I'm already a member of CJ and eBay. I do my own site design and would like my auction page to have a cohesive look with the rest of my site. I took a look at eBay's Editor Kit and it looked very easy to use. Do the other programs offer features that the Editor Kit does not?

After I've added auctions to this site - I'm going to add them to others that I am planning on creating. One will be a blog that I will use WordPress on. The others will be Niche sites. I enjoy designing the sites myself - but again - wonder if using the Editor Kit will be too basic for my needs?

    Thanks! :)

    Hey Buddy ,

I think BANS is a specific "shop" site whereas PHPbay will integrate with your existing site.

You should start with Editor Kit and work from there . You could then get BANS to further your income.

Im working on an alternative if interested PM.

    Cheers!

The problem with the Editor Kit is that it's a javascript widget. Bots won't be able to pick that up, so you'll miss out on easy organic searches. BANS/PHPbay uses RSS in combination with PHP generates HTML output, so when spiders come to your site, they'll see that as 'content', and hopefully index you well with search queries.

    Hope this helps.

I got this site from eBay and customized a lot to fit the needs of my niche. i run this site as is... just for fun and to test things out. Paid like 25.00 for this.

My niche site does very good in the Google search. As much as i like the bans i will stick to this setup for now....

The thing about BANS is you can add your own content...and you should for SEO purposes and you can add other streams of income as well. And Google seems to index my sites quickly and I start to get traffic immediately with social bookmarking and Google.

I have hundreds of CJ product blogs sites and only a few BANS sites, but combining BANS with CJ ie popshops has made a big impact on my new sales.

Just my take on the argument. I do not know PHPbay, but I develop volumes of sites so BANS or Blogs makes it simple and effective.

No-one makes anything off HostedNiche do they? Apart from HostedNiche themselves...!

I figure you would need a hell of a lot of different niches to get anything going...

    TracyMFM,

If you have javascript and PHP knowledge, you may start with eBay editor kit.

BANS vs phpBayPro: phpBayPro cost $39, which is cheaper as compare to Build a Niche Store @ $97. It has the similar function as BANS, but each product has a unique landing page. BANS work on categories.

Unlike BANS, phpBayPro requires customization from your parts. As phpBayPro uses wordpress, you need to have basic installation and coding knowledge of Wordpress to make phpBayPro works for you. If you are already familiar with Wordpress, then phpBayPro is for you. If you are a non techcie, and want something be to set up quickly and easily, then by all mean go for BANS.

Whether you are using editor kits, phpBayPro or BANS, ALWAYS put in extra efforts to make your site more unique. Add in contents like how-to guide, youtube vid, or even RSS feeds. Why? SE likes unique sites. Even if you decide to use PPC to promote your BANS store, Adwords will reward you as you are providing good user experience.

Oh yeah, don't forget to collect opt in too !

    cheers,
    CY

You can always write your own script using eBay's rss feed and an rss parser to create your own BANS style store. It's pretty easy if you know a bit of PHP, if you search DP there's a few old threads that tell you how to do it :)

The advantage of making your own script is that you avoid any footprint issues, and you can customize it and SEO it to the max.

Why do you say that? Why wouldn't it perform as good as any Bans store?

I use both programs. I like BANS for new niche sites and I use PHPBay for my Wordpress blogs.

Both have their pro's and con's. I'd buy both again in a heartbeat!

For a site that is already up and has traffic, if it was a blog, I'd use PHPBay. If it was a static site, I'd try the Ebay editor kit.

I ended up doing this myself, I use the tags section of my posts to get keywords to feed to Ebay. As said before use a non javascript method to do this, you will greatly benefit from organic traffic this way.

Although I have more work to do as I have not resolved this "footprint" issue, with that said, I got out of the sandbox a couple weeks ago, and google searches are coming through again.

There are many ways to promote a BANS site.

When i was actively promoting BANS, I used PPC and social bookmarketing so that I need not to worry about footprints.

And I've made nice money with BANS :)

Well, those Hosted Niche pages don't have any additional content whatsoever, so I find it hard to believe they would get much traffic, unless you are running PPC campaigns on them or something, which doesn't sound very cost-effective. Also, they are very bland, just text-based. I am guessing you would need to set up LOADS of niche pages to see any effect at all... Maybe I am wrong? But using Wordpress or Joomla, you can easily set up your own niche pages, like I have done here (Red Ford cars and trucks) and here (Bike Bargains) and a) you take ALL the impressions, not just 70% like on Hosted Niche and b) you can have a lot more control over the content, include images and tie the products to your site content. And even then it is hard work to make sales, so I am guessing HN is even harder!

    Maybe I am wrong?

I think the advantage to both BANS and phpBayPro is you can work with the eBay affiliate links a bit easier and have more options. Plus they both give you nice ways to present the data.

I guess i am/was in the same boat as the OP, until yesterday :D

I installed BANS for one of my sites yesterday. Site ranks great in google, the store of course covers the same niche as the site, so lets see how it goes.

i never tried the editor kit.

In what way? I would be interested in hearing any experiences with this, as it IS very simple and easy, you could create zillions of niche stores if you could be bothered...! But I can't see why it would get any traffic. In fact I have a couple, I couldn't figure out how you put a CJ tracking code in there, so I wouldn't even know if I was getting traffic or not..!

Give www.buildanichelink.com a test run. You can at least see your pid and know you will get the commission.
