Hi, Just wondering if there is a maximum or recommended amount of keywords to include in the keywords meta tag? Jimbob
I would advise using at the most 5 keywords per a page i have sometimes stretched to 7 however i try not to use more than 4-5 keywords per page, this will help keep the percentage per keyword high enough. However the meta keyword tag has lost most of its importance the description tag is still regarded and taken in to account. Not only this but people browsing the search engines will be able to read this description tag that you write for each page, so not only make it keyword optimised but also sell the page to the users so they will click yours and no one elses.
I've read where the keyword meta tag doesn't mean much with Google, but it does with Yahoo and another smaller engine that I can't think of right now) So I always play it safe and include it on all my pages. Just be sure that whatever keywords you do list in the meta tag does indeed appear in the text of the page. If you do that you probably won't end up with more then 2 or 3 anyway)
your meta keyword tag really isn't all that important! I recommend focusing more on your title and description & if you haven't already researched your key phrases I would do that. Your title should have your best key phrase in it and so should your description but don't worry about the meta keywords because they don't seem to do anything for your rankings at all!
"Keywords as anchor if you use to get links for your websites from quality and theme related sites, will be better from meta. In my views meta tag keywords are not dead, it has still meaning but if it is in proper proportion." Source : Is Meta Tag Keywords Still Important?
I agree that you should use keywords in your meta tags but, what I'm saying is that its not ground breaking. You won't jump to the top of the serps just because you have the right number of keywords in your meta tag. Instead focus on your competitors & right click on their page, view source, then count their keywords if you feel that it's important.
