I have two sites 1 ranked #5 and 1 ranked #6. I seemed to have stopped moving int he SERPs since I hit those spots. What is the difference in traffic for the #1 spot of google versus #2,3,4, or 5? I'm wondering if it is even worth it for me to fight for those spots. My keywords are fairly low in competition around 15000 global monthly searches.
Yes, it is worth the effort to get there. The knowledge you gain will be applied to all you pages that will then bring more traffic to your site.
Would like to recommend you the following article: blog.searchenginewatch.com/100525-160427 I think you can answer yourself after reading it, if the top spot is really worth it or if you want to keep your site at 5/6 By the way, low competition and 15k searches a month, sounds like you found a great keyword there. If competition is so low, what keeps you from moving up the ranks? If you want, you can pm me the toughness of the competition for this keyword and I'll be able to give you more suggestions on what to do.
http://www.seoresearcher.com/distribution-of-clicks-on-googles-serps-and-eye-tracking-analysis.htm There are actually a range of things to consider when addressing this question. There are reasons folks do not inherently click on the first result. Title attribute and description tag play a big role as well. that should keep you busy for a sec, Nigel
Hmm, Thanks for the useful information guys. I see now that I am getting a very small fraction of the possible traffic. Using the #1 spot as 100% of the traffic (though it really only gets somewhere between 35-50% of the total traffic) I am only getting about 14%. I can already see the benefits of the #1 spot $.$. Thanks again for the articles time to start building more BLs.
It is better to having the no. 1 on the search engines. If you are on no. 5 or 6 then also it is good. Collect quality backlinks for moving in SERP. And yes it is worth if you are on the top for getting traffic & leads for your website & business
Getting in the top 5 is important as you're then above the fold. If you build compelling title and meta description, you can 'steal' clicks from a higher ranking site. This can sometimes be more cost effective than trying to get the #1 position.
