its like " you wanna use yahoo or MSN for daily search? Answer is "No". You always want to stick to "Google" cause it dominates. or on the other hand can u use Moneybooker to accept payments, when your client use paypal? NO!

And yeah some one said " Some time you can't change the world, the way it runs.
i personally like windows, and will stick to it. Even though will look forward to give a try to linux.

I think this is a stupid thread how can you judge the intelligence of someone by what operating system they use?

As your mother told you, if everyone else jumped off a bridge, you would too?

Google didn't dominate because it wasn't good at search. Quality search came first and that's why people used it. Windows dominated for the average user (not programmers) for two reasons, it was easier for them to get it up and running, and Microsoft illegally forced manufacturers to only install that OS on the system. That second reason was a huge part of this.

well, you are filled with negativity, at least, you should try to get to know me better.

I work in integrated IT solutions industry. Tell me Which 5 stars hotel, casino, service industry uses non-MS to assist customers? All they need is a couple of rack servers with windows basesd, since all their database are running on SQL.

if you are using USD$ 200k Casino software or 5 star hotel software, you cannot get it done with joomla on mysql, we offer services, not product. Most importantly, M$ offers a lot of things that many people cannot. Do you sell M$ Dynamix CRM? or M$ Dynamics HRMS??

Can Microsoft Dynamics HRMS and payroll system run on *nix? That's where the necessity is playing an important role.

Many companies developed customized systems on windows 32 bit, what other choices do we have to use it?? it's very simple, some people use it for their professional, doesn't really mean that love to use it.

Last but not least, your stereotype about gaming is very funny. XBox does not provide what windows could. if you are Halo kiddie, you might recommend XboX, but if you play middle-earth, EQ2, WoW gaming experiences, you will need to think twice about your OS and display power.

I would rather use PS3 for bettering gaming experiences if i am totally against windows.

Most people come here complaining they can't run software like Photoshop on 'nix and not that they can't run custom business software.

I'm aware of that, too, but so many people use gaming as an excuse to use Windows professionally and personally, hence my comment.

Well, many people prefer convenience... they don't want to learn new things, they use what they are already using.. it's something similar to a habit.

if you tell someone to use GIMP or GIMP, they will complain oh, it's hard to use. interface is not friendly, etc etc. it's our job to share knowledge of the freedom of applications. What other applications can do great things... such as

    http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Linux_software_equivalent_to_Windows_software

So that people will understand more about freedom of choice and other useful applications. For me, this place is to learn and to share the information, I bet there are many people who whine but also many people who are willing to learn like me.

I was just saying, some people use because of their work, but I always love using debian and rpm based Linux.

Regarding, gaming, yes, some games particularly need it, but if you are playing age of empires, perhaps you are just trying to make excuse, or SIMS.
they are also available in Mac version.

Now, i can see many developers are keen on distributing their games on many platforms, but not on an agreed level, that destroy the gaming community.

I personally don't like windows, but it's ok to use windows if we know how to tweak or if we learn how to minimize the potential blue-screen issues. I would test vista and windows 7, but I wouldn't use for my pleasure, it's all about nature of your professional and convenience of your choice.

    Thanks for reading

Well, more than the users who are considered "fools", I think its the marketing strategy of Microsoft that has worked in making Windows the most successful OS of all times

I have used Windows for years. Installed Red Hat a couple years ago, worked ok until I wanted to install some packages for gnu C/C++ compiler. All I got were a bunch of errors about missing stuff, which I would have to search the web and install. I got fed up with all that crap so I uninstalled it and went back to Windows, where things are much simpler. I'm not going to spend the rest of my life just to figure out how to use that complicated operating system -- I don't have enough time on this earth left to do that.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. Installing binutils and associated stuff is easy as can be.

Yeah, it's true. Microsoft pwns pretty much 90% of the market. Why? It's the most scaleable, diverse application.

It is just SO easy to turn on the machine and have Windows pop up. Yes, we could change, but then there is the new learning curve, and IM is about as much learning curve that I can stand right now:D

Anyway, users got addicted by using Windows so it's hard for anyone to go to another OS.
